Marty Hermanson, a candidate for Maricopa City Council, was unanimously elected president of the Maricopa Republican’s Club at its meeting Dec. 8. Pat Lacey, Andy Lockman and the club’s immediate past president, David Lang, were also voted on the board.

Lacey will serve as vice president, Lockman secretary and Lang will be the club’s council.

The Dec. 8 meeting also featured a presentation by State Treasurer Dean Martin who spoke to the group about the Treasury office and his vision for the state’s economy.

Hermanson said the club’s main goals in 2008 are to increase membership, get new registered voters, secure quality speakers for monthly meetings, participate in more community events and campaign for the candidates.

“We have an exciting year ahead of us,” Hermanson said. “Not only is there a very important presidential election in 2008, but there are a lot of key city, county and state seats up for grabs.”

The club’s next meeting is Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at Native New Yorker. For more information, email maricopa_rebublican@yahoo.com.
