Alert | Hello, I would like to have a vet setup to do my pig's hooves before I actually move to Maricopa, so I would deeply appreciate any referrals. Thank you! Serp.

Alert | Are you moving to the Farms area or in the city? Because your HOA in the city may have something to say about a pet pig.
I always use Casa Grande Animal Hospital for my livestock. 520-836-5979

Alert | Hello, I read the HOA bylaws and my pet pig is not forbidden. We're not talking about some huge market pig, but I understand that in some places they’re still considered livestock, so I read carefully. My pig is an indoor pet that only goes out for potty breaks. He couldn't ever be considered a neighborhood nuisance. Thanks for the referral. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they have to say. Alert | You might want to check into what development your in because I had 2 pot bellys and they were the best pets ever. Indoor pigs but, PB also require outdoor time too in order for their happiness. Well, when I lived in RED I never had an issue but, when we moved to Senita HOA had a fit and I had to get someone to adopt who by the way live in Hidden Valley and are amazing people so I was lucky but, it absolutely broke my heart when I had to give them up! Good Luck to you as I am a Pig Lover and always will be!

Alert | I just wanted to know how big your pig is, I LOVE THEM. My sister had one for years and he got to be over 100 lbs, he was an indoor piggy and im sorry to the dog lovers here... but he was smarter than a dog! He was amazing! I always wanted one but I do know that they can become VERY large and not the "mini pot bellied pigs" that some people try to advertise.

Alert | Jgk, He's about 130 pounds, and while that may seem somewhat big he's stout not fat. Of course, being a potbellied pig he will always have a little gut. I used to take him into elementary schools and he would perform in a manner that displayed his intelligence. The children were always so taken with him and responded so wonderfully. But he's not young anymore and there came a time when he became too cantankerous. He wants to be left alone now and that's just fine. We love him the way he is. But I don't want to mislead you with my comments; he's a very gentle boy. My Chihuahua is alpha because my pig is gentle enough to let him be. He's strictly an indoor pet. He always gets his own bedroom, but in the new house he won't be able to maneuver the stairs, so we'll have to transform the downstairs laundry room so he can have his privacy. Luckily, we've two laundry rooms in the new house. Your remark about their intelligence is so true. They're called the Einstein’s of the farm. They're way cleaner than other animals too. I really hope he's not going to be a problem. When I first read the bylaws I thought not, but after rereading them they’re more ambiguous than I first noticed. I would hate to have to give up my new house. Serp.

Serp- How I commend your last sentence, there are to many people out there that would just disregaurd the "beloved family pet" like a piece of garbage when they were an inconvience to them. You are truly a great pet/piggy owner

Alert | | I have a pb. She is the best! She is full grown and weighs about 40 pounds. No, I don't starve her. I rescued her from a livestock auction. She is just a really small pig. If you find a vet that does pb, could you let me know? I need to have her spayed and have her hooves trimmed. She is extremly friendly with everyone, and loves to swim in her baby pool. Alert | Itapee,
Kudos to you for opening your heart and mind and rescuing her; I wish others that are up to the unique challenges would follow your commendable act. She is so adorable. Looking at her makes my heart go pitter-patter. How long have you had her? I've had my boy for eleven years.
I will definitely come back to this thread and let you know when I find a vet. I've been sidetracked from that mission, but I'm soon to put my efforts to the task.
Pigs can react unpredictably to anesthesia. They do so much better with ISO (gas) than Ketamine, which once cause my boy to hallucinate for twenty-four hours. It was horrible. My point being - a vet must not only be schooled but have experience in dealing with the unique problems pigs can present, but I'm sure you know that. After all, these are our pets and not something that we can be compensated monetarily for if something goes awry.

You're so right. I'm a clean freak and my pig doesn't really add any stress to that mentality.

Alert | This is actually my 2nd Pig. Mt first one was named Pork Chop Sooey. She has gone to the big buffet in the sky. Hog Heaven is just a joy. I make videos, and made one of Heaven. It was made in November, so she is a lot tinier. I am taking video to update her story. If anyone is interested in her story go to this link. http://uk.video.yahoo.com/watch/1584870/5357712 If anyone out there has a pb, I recommend getting them a baby pool at Fry's or Ace. Dump it out once a day and keep it clean. Heaven Loves it! Does anyone know how to put pictures on here? I will post some of Heaven and Sooey if anyone is interested.
