Alert | They printed a letter from WallMart who said they are going to start construction at the end of this summer and open in spring of 2009. It will be a supercenter with a grocery store and even automotive. I hope this latest news is true and they do not push their opening back again. Guess we'll see.

YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! Wal Mart ... please hurry up!!!!
I was thinking the same thing this weekend when i was driving to chandler to get a deal on a patio set walmart had to clearance out. I'm really hoping we get a petco in there too, so i can get odds and ends for my saltwater tank in town. A local pet shop is ALWAYS better than the big box pet store, but I don't see one of them coming.... I'm really hoping for something though...

Check this out .... my husband and I did an experiment ... one month we shopped only at Wal Mart for all grocery stuff ... the following month we shopped only in town for all the same stuff .... we saved $600.00 during the Wal Mart month ... NO LIE!!!! So ... yeah, I'm excited for Wal Mart to get here and then save on the drive/gas. So be nice!

Alert | I don't even spend $600 a month on food and stuff. I can see, that for family types, WalMart makes sense for them. However, I can't stand shopping at WalMart. Their stores seem very disorganized and dirty. I would rather spend the extra money and shop Costco or Target.

Alert | | But I don't agree that all Wal Marts are dirty/disorganized ... the Wal Mart at Mesa Grand is a really nice store and so is the one on Elliot .... maybe Mesa Grande is a bit nicer but I believe it's newer too. Casa Grande was pretty decent too and had really good prices. I think this brand new store will be great and I'm so excited to be able to buy shoes and clothes here .... check this out, the other day a guy came up to me outside Blockbuster and asked me if I knew any place in town he could buy a belt .... there isn't one! I thought of the Western store, but they're gone, seriously, the guy couldn't get a belt within 20 miles ... so anyone who thinks Wal Mart isn't needed here .... I respectfully say .... you're wrong.

Same thing for us. Comparing identical boxed goods from walmart to fry's or bashas, walmart is always a money saver over the local stores. Even shopping bashas in chandler to bashas in maricopa there is a huge price increase at the maricopa store.
I don't buy much else at walmart, unless i need something temporary and disposable. I'll never buy meat of produce there, i find sprouts is even cheaper yet for produce. Even if you never step foot in the maricopa walmart it will benefit you. Aside from the added tax money to the city they will force fry's and bashas to lower their prices a bit to a more reasonable level. | | Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

Alert | | I'm no fan of Walmart. My car radio was stolen outside the one on Elliot, but we're desperate so a Walmart here is good news, I guess. I'm just glad I won't be next door to it.

Alert | | Hhhmmm ... how was Wal Mart at fault for the stolen radio? I hate thieves too though. I once had a car stolen right in front of my office.

Alert | Well, OF COURSE, it's not Walmart's fault, but unfortunately for Walmart, it happened in their parking lot, so I'm further biased, at least against the one on Elliot anyway. Never said I was always logical and reasonable.
I do still shop at other Walmarts and will continue to shop at Walmart for cheap buys, but you have to admit a lot of their stuff is subpar quality. I stick to namebrand only there. I do the same. If I can buy the same exact GE light bulb, gatorade, kitchen aid appliances, Haynes socks, or Kraft mac and cheese for cheaper at walmart i certainly will.
I will not buy shirts, pants, shoes (except cheap sandals for around the house), or anything else that i expect to work more than once there. I refuse to buy cd's, dvd's or games there. They used to only sell edits, but I don't know if that is still the case. I won't buy meat and produce there either. too many times have i seen green beef in the cooler, or meat shoved on the shelf next to the coffee makers get tossed back in the cooler I'm excited to see walmart open to provide discount shopping on some items, but more so to create a high draw shopping center away from 347 that will bring in other stores, and to add pressure to the other local grocers to lower their prices to match the stores in chandler. | | Follow your bliss.
