Alert | | Hey there all. We just signed papers this past Saturday to build a new home in Homestead (DR HORTON). Any advice on what to watch out for? Any good things we should be aware of too, that maybe we dont know? I'm afraid we jumped the gun a little here in doing this. But the location seems good, prices are great, and we're just dying to own a home. I cant even remember the name of the development area we purchased a lot in. Might be Cave Creek or something like that. Seven months to go, and we're both sick to our stomachs thinking about everything we need to do. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks. | | "What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger."

Alert | | Is it Eagle Creek? I dont know about that neighborhood but We are in Cactus Cove. While I have no problem with the sale and we do our walk thru this Friday so I will let you know how that goes...Watch yourself at the design center (or should I say WATCH them (the designer) They were not high pressured but just didnt explain things well- we are having an issue with them right now so we will see what happens AFTER the official walk thru. That said this is my 5th new home build and out of the 5 developers all but one had problems with the design center. Some where pushy, some were not knowledgable with the house. Just ask TONS of questions and I would take a digital camera to take pictures of what you are getting.

Alert | We have been living in Eagle Crest since March. We love our house and IMO the neighborhood is nice. Nothing spectacular, just nice.
Our walk thru went relatively well. There were small fixes that were taken care of on the spot. Other minor issues were taken care of in time, although it did take a couple tries to fix the gaps in all of the exterior doors. Our neighbor has the same problem with her doors allowing dust to blow in. We had to replace our microwave after a month or two and it took them quite awhile to do that.
I like the idea about taking a camera to the design center with you. I had forgotten what our carpet and cabinets looked like by the time our house was built (made for fun times shopping for furniture). Speaking of furniture, if you plan on buying new stuff make sure you take really good measurements at the model home to take shopping with you.
We visited the design center weeks before our appointment to get a good idea of everything they offer. There is soo much stuff it would have been very hard to choose something in the 1 or 2 hours you get there during your appointment so I'm glad we went before hand to scope everything out. As mentioned before, the people that work there weren't high pressure but they were not that helpful either. The girl we were working with seemed annoyed while waiting for us to decide on things.
Oh, and when you're doing your front landscaping... if you get grass you actually have to take care of it! Some of our neighbors seem to overlook that. I prefer rock (less work, and it looks better than a tiny amoeba shaped patch of grass).
The other neighborhoods in Homestead are Trailhead, Cactus Cove, Crescent Ridge, Sundance, Eagle Crest.... not sure what I'm forgetting here. | | Janice, not Janet.

Alert | | I can't remember what development it is in. They all sound alike..lol. But I know it's in the one that nothing is in yet. I definatley will take your advice and bring a camera with me to the design center. Does anyone request different colors of carpeting in the different bedrooms? Or does everyone go with the same carpet throughout? We were reading the design center list that the builder supplied us. It's very confusing. There are a lot of options and prices on there. I guess we'll just play it all by ear and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. | | "What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger."
