Alert | I posted a message last week stating that I had been bitten several times by mosquitos while taking a walk. Since then I have been sick for 4 days now with flu-like symptoms, very weak, dizzy, some nausea. Apparently not much to do but wait it out if it is W Nile.
I wonder if anyone has heard of anyone else coming down with this?

Alert | I checked online a few places and there doesn't seem to be anything one can do other than wait it out. The majority of people don't have any symptoms. It if lasts more than 6 days, or symptoms get worse - then a blood test is needed and a doctor's care as in rare cases it can lead to serious problems.
This was news to me as I thought, this was always of serious concern! I am feeling better today, so will see how it goes. CJ

Alert | Wow, playing with your life is kind of crazy. I've read of cases where people have died from it.

Alert | How are you feeling CJ? Did you go to a Doctor? I've been bitten by mosquitos several times last week and I've been paranoid about this West Nile Virus.

Alert | As I stated in my previous message - after researching a few places on the internet...West Nile virus is not serious to the great majority - most never even know they have it and others may have mild symptoms like me.
IF you run a fever, symptoms get worse etc, THEN get a blood test and see a doctor to be safe as it is RARE but some do experience severe illness.
I am feeling better, just a little drowsy yet in the mornings. I never had a fever, but I will certainly see a doctor if anything else shows up.
If you are still concerned please "google" West Nile virus to get more info. CJ

Alert | You really need to still see a doctor. This isn't something to mess with. Reading about issues on the internet is not the same as seeing a doctor in person. The internet can not look at you and make sure that your OK.
You found a website that says one thing but I can find another website that will say the exact opposite of what you say.
Get yourself to the doctor and make sure that everything is ok. Your life is something that you should not trust to the readings of the internet. | | Senior Member Posts: 4625 Joined: Feb 2006

Alert | If you still feel sick I would go to the hospital. My Grandmother came down with West Nile 3 years ago. At the time she was 87 and the oldest to survive. She couldn't walk, had high fever and very dizzy. At first the docs through it was meningitis but tests came back negative and it took 3 weeks for the West Nile tests to come back.
They gave her antiviral medication and that seemed to help.
