We will be moving into Phase 3 of Senita at the end of August. I know we will get to choose from a few options of DR Horton's front yard landscaping.

Does anyone have any recommendations about what we should choose or avoid?

Thanks!

I love yellow lantana and this purple bush (not sure of the name)

But please drive around in Phase 1 & 2 and look at the jungle out there.

We put two Acacia trees in our front yard, I believe they are Shoestring Acacia's. They were about 5' tall when put in last August/September and they are now about 20' tall. They look great, did very well this past winter and require very little maintenance. They also ave flowers on them eventually, but I haven't seen those yet. The Texas Sage is the purple bush everyone is seeing right now and I love those! Other than that maybe Red Bird of Paradise or Oleanders.

Just the good ol' boys,
Never meanin' no harm,
Beats all you've ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.

Straight'nin' the curve,
Flat'nin' the hills.
Someday the moutain might get 'em, but the law never will.

Makin' their way,
The only way they know how,
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow.

Just good ol' boys,
Wouldn't change if they could,

No silly, we just park in the yard between the trees like the neighbors do.

LOL. There's has been a 30' ABF trailer parked on the street for the past few days, wonder which renter that belongs to...

That would mandate an immediate call to the COMPLIANCE OFFICER.

Generally I would say "I don't care since I don't live there anymore" but I guess I should care since we're still trying to sell the house...

Yeah. Our Realtor felt it would be best if we moved now so the house was vacant for showings. It was hard to keep it as clean as we wanted with the kids and of course a huge pain in the butt to load the kids into the car and leave so someone could come look at the house.

Make sure when you get your plants that they give you what you asked for. My front yard is full of things we specifically said we didn't want. They also have a new deal that they don't have on their paperwork where you can get one nice tree instead of 2 of the cheaper trees.

Yes, that's really my name

Thanks for all the suggestions.

What kind of tree would be considered a "nice" tree?

You have to make that decision, it's all personal preference. Look at your CC&R's and see what is on the approved list, then do some research and see how the tree looks in two or three years. Don't wait till the last minute to pick your plants out of their book otherwise you'll get a crappy yard, IMO.

RUH-ROH. Last minute tree decisions mean you will have a crappy yard???

Sometimes. When you have 50 plants and 11 trees your yard will always look great.

I definitely don't want to wait until the last minute to make my decision. That's why I'm doing my research now. I'm from the midwest and am not too familar with the majority of trees and plants out here.

Though all I've come up with so far is I definitely want Texas Sage and perhaps Oleanders

Are you allowed to plant palm trees of any sort? I did not see any around there...
