Alert | | I have been out of town do the a sickness in the family and unable to attend to a matter that the HOA sighted me on while i was gone. Well somehow i also was fined with in those same 2 weeks! I thought i would have atleast 30 days to deal with the issue which is very minor conserding my neighbor keeps his horse trailer parked out front and has had piles upon piles of crapy useless furniture out front in his porch for months! shouldnt that be a higher priority? I have never lived with a HOA but i do my best to keep my house looking beautiful. I work hard for what i have and im not going to just let it go to crap like my neighbors. Id really love to meet the person that is responsible for this! And id like to know why i should pay this fine. when the hoa cant even keep the trees around here from dying or keep things looking nice 247 so then why should i have to? Jeanne tonkinson is on the bottom as community manager i plan on going to the next metting and talking with her! so if anyone likes a good fireworks show do join in!!!!!!!! oo and bite me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alert | Jeep, I feel your frustrations! I have always had an HOA community and it really does work. Sorry for your family situation. Just talk to Jeannie and explain your situation and she will take that fine off your billing for this quarter. I have served on many HOA boards and if you are a first time offender they really should be willing to forget about the fine! Try talking with her before the meeting. I would also voice your complaints regarding the neighborhood plant and tree issues. No, I do not serve as a board member in Alterra, however, I was an unpaid volunteer for many other boards in my past. Good Luck and hope things work out for you. | | Live every day as if it were your last and smile!

Alert | Yeah, it always sucks when you get a letter from the HOA, but keep in mind that your neighbor is probably getting (and ignoring) the letters, too. When you get a chance, you should pull out the first notice you got from the HOA about your issue. If you re-read it, you'll notice two important points.
#1: You have 14 days to bring the issue into compliance. #2: If you have extenuating circumstances, contact Jeanne to discuss the matter.
The community manager and the board will probably be a whole lot more responsive if you don't spend a month stewing over the problem before you have a "fireworks show" at the meeting. I would imagine if you explain the situation in a calm and civil manner, you'll be met with understanding and civility.

Alert | | I am familiar with that home as well, how can you miss the big pile of rock that sat in front of the house for monthsnext to the horse trailer. I spoke to another neighbor about this home and apparently they are storing the furniture for a family member. Hello... GARAGE... or atleast on the patio in the backyard!! Did anyone happen to notice the home at the end of your street on I think Vera Cruz that has all the boxes stacked up on their front porch? I wonder if they are ignoring the letters too.

Alert | Wow, you must have been gone a long time since it takes almost a month before you get to the fine level of the violations.
You get a curosity notice then if not corrected it is an another two to three weeks before a fine is sent.

Alert | | I feel your pain Jeeptj02. We too have never lived with an HOA . We moved here from Il. recently. I guess it's gonna take some getting used to having someone else telling what you do with your own house! I would definatly try calling them first to explain!<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/angry.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Angry' align='absmiddle'>

Alert | Good evening! I highly recommend that you email or call Jeanne- she is a great lady to work with and is so willing to help. I'm sure she could also give you a quick update about your neighbor's house too- she is very knowledgeable about our community and does not send out violations just to be a pain in your bum. I've actually gone with her on an inspection- personally I thought she was very fair. If you wish to appeal your fine, you need to do so in writing (or phone) so that it can be put on the agenda for the executive meeting. The next meeting is Thursday the 27th @ 6:30- Maricopa Elementary. I'm sure the board would be happy to hear your case and would be willing to work with you. I'm sure they would also appreciate hearing your input regarding the landscaping, etc. I highly recommend, however, that you do not approach the HOA and tell them to "bite me"... I'm not so sure the board members would appreciate that! haha Everyone always feels that the HOA is picking on them... and I've been there too, but remember that there are almost 1000 homes in Alterra- Jeanne can't just pick on you for fun! Have a good night- LoveScience
