I've actually had to go around the block and knock on the doors of the people who live in the house behind me to tell them their dogs are barking throughout the night - after 11pm and before 6am - completely disrespectful if you let your dogs do that. I have a dog and he's never out in the yard after 10 pm or before 7 am - and if he is, I have him trained not to bark! I've also had to call the police on barking dogs with another neighbor. What is it with people who think it's ok to let their dogs out barking all night?

Did you people read the front page story about the guy whose dogs were barking and it turned out he had a stash of weapons in his house to protect his dog-fighting operation? That is the last sort of guy I am going to wake up with a ringing doorbell in the middle of the night. Having the police go out on your behalf would be a much safer bet.
Also, if someone I don't know was ringing my door bell in the middle of the night, I would ignore them. If I had a barking dog, I would take it as a hint and bring the dog inside, but not on my life am I opening up my door for strangers -- especially in the middle of the night.

Well I went at 4pm on a Saturday to let them know that the whole week prior their dogs were barking constantly after 11pm. I would never go knock on anyone's door after dark. As a resident and homeowner, I don't want to get police involved unless it's a last resort...... and I have had to resort to that a few times, and my block is getting quieter and quieter :-)
