Just wanted to make everyone in Alterra aware that some children were caught today tearing down the wall at the end of Roosevelt, in Alterra north. Luckily only a few bricks were torn down before I noticed and was able to chase them away. I did follow the kids and the police were called. The two children involved were questioned by the police and as a member of the HOA board I have filed a report with the police on the community’s behalf. I wanted to make everyone aware of this because of two key points; 1) the children who were tearing down the wall were not residents of Alterra, but 2) they are friends of kids that do live here in Alterra. After trying to take down the wall on Roosevelt the kids ran to the church, hopped that wall after being confronted and proceeded to jump over the wall adjacent to the play park in Alterra north. The two kids involved were found and questioned by the police on the corner of Jack Rabbit and Marina (in case anyone happened to be driving by, this is what you saw). My major concern is that when the kids were found they were amongst 10 plus other kids that live in Alterra. As a parent, and a former kid, I know that kids are not going to tell their parents what's going on all the time, but I wanted to make sure all of you knew. While it's impossible for any parent to know what is happening every second of every day, as a community we can make a conscious effort to keep each other informed. So please, talk to your kids about this, it's costing all of us a lot to fix these problems. And let your neighbors know too, not everyone reads this forum or the Alterra HOA website. If more encouragement is needed then know this. To fix the 10 foot section of wall that was torn down a few months ago at the same park these kids jumped the wall at, you, the residents of Alterra, had to pay $3200 from your dues. All of us can think of much better ways to spend our money, so let’s keep our kids (and their friends) from continuing to do this. |
