With quite a few homes in foreclosure & empty the weeds are growing like crazy, especially on Norris & Zion(in Alterra South).  I love what Maricopa Meadows did today...they cleaned up the 10 worst yards & then had a BBQ for all that volunteered.  Would anyone be interested in this type of community service?

I think this is a wonderful idea. I have already started spraying weeds in vacant houses to try to abate the problem before it becomes excessive. Only takes a few minutes every few weeks.

I emailed the HOA last week but haven't heard back from them. I'll let you know if I hear of any possibilities. Thanks!

My boys and I have cleaned up one foreclosure front yard in Alterra South recently that we have to drive by every day~ In fact, I never knew they had a fire hydrant on their property until the weeds were gone, LOL.

We also pulled the weeds by the mailboxes since the responsible house is a "renter" that obviously doesn't care.

We play outside just about every afternoon and I casually pick weeds while I am watching them play. By doing it on a daily basis, it doesn't get out of control. Therefore, our street looks good and we are proud to live there.

Just a heads up, there is a whole process we on the board are going through to help with the weed problem and save everyone money. Soon we will be asking for volunteers to help us get these weeds taken care of. First though we had to submit to code enforcement all of the abandoned homes with weed issues, which has been completed. Code enforcement is going to send those owners notices stating that they have a certain amount of days to fix the problem or by default they are granting permission for someone to fix it for them. Once we know which front yards we are legally allowed to access we will post for volunteers. The good thing about all of this is that the city will be providing all of the supplies we will need. We'll also plan a little BBQ or something to coincide with this to thank all of the volunteers.

So my apologizes for all of the red tape we have to go through, but at least you all know we are working on it.

Just noticed the Alterra Hoa website. They are planning a clean up your neighborhood type thing on June 21. Check it out and hopefully we have a big turnout. I know my hubby and I will be there to lend a hand...
