Alert | Would it be possible to get an outdoor basketball court add to some, or even one of the parks? I am thinking maybe one of the larger ones that also has a tot lot. Relative to the enjoyment of the nieghborhood kids and adults it would be pretty cheap and almost nothing to maintain.
There are no facilities for teens or adults to entertain themselves with nearby and maybe a couple of outdoor basketball courts would give some kids something to do other than just"hang out". Be fun for us active adults too.
Any hope? | | You are not authorized to post a reply!

Alert | I agree, give the kids something to do. The best way to keep kids out of trouble is to give them productive ways to use their time. I stayed out of trouble in my younger years by going to the park and playing basketball.
Besides, I would love to see that my HOA dollars are going to something productive. So far, all I have seen is:
1. A charge for cable that 1.) was not hooked up for over a month after I moved in 2.) I haven't used, because due to number 1, I got a satellite dish.
2. Horribly maintained landscape.
3. A notice from the HOA when my neighbor put his trash can's in front of my gate while he moved the Hot Tub in the back yard. (He also got a notice when my landscapers moved my trash can's in front of his gate to do the landscaping.)
4. A lake that is half-empty more than it is full.
Why am I paying a fee? Oh yeah, thats right, so you can tell me what I CAN'T DO in or around my home.
I understand they are a necessary evil, but HOA's can get out of hand in a hurry with the wrong leadership.
Explain to me why the basketball hoop has to be black and white? What if my kid is a sun's fan, he can't even get a sun's backboard because its purple and orange.....OVER THE TOP........anyway...now I am ranting....

Alert | If you get letters or if you get rejected by a proposal (such as a certain type of basketball hoop), you can appeal them to the board. The board can override any of the committees decissions. Committees are just delegates to reduce the workload of the (unpaid) board.
Plus, judging by the attendance of the HOA meetings, it will be difficult to have new board members that are comparable or better than the ones we have now. They are very knowledgable about our HOA and have been working all year to clean up the mess the builders left us. I know I would not be able to fill their shoes. I just hope the next board does not screw up what they have accomplished so far.

Alert | Dear chrchrw,
Because of the lack of interest in our community, the COMMITTEES are also volunteers and also DO NOT GET PAID. The committee members are from the same families. We attend all meetings and keep the community informed, either by delivering the MM News-letter door to door or by the information posted twice a month on the maricopameadowsannounce.com. We work just as hard as the board and without these Committes News of our COMMUNITY would not get out. Committees are not just delegates, without the Committees there would be no Community communications Social events or Block Watch security.
How many of our community members are willing to volunteer their time? The turnout at the HOA meeting is a prime examble of the lack of interest. But let the HOA dues go up and the yelling and screaming will not end.

Alert | Ummm...I have no problems with the Board. They do a good job, a great job. It is not the board who is going around giving out those notices. That is the management company.
Back on the subject please....This was about having a basket court or two or three in our community parks.
I would like to hear from a board member or knowledgeable person on how we could go about making this happen.
In the overall scheme of things they are not that expensive and can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. I am not suggesting we light them. Just a couple of concrete, full court basketball hoops. Cheaper than a tot loss and less liability too.
Seriously, we have things for small kids to do, and for adults to do but nothing for the teenagers. | | You are not authorized to post a reply!

Alert | I think at least one court would be nice. We could have one full court with one half court on each side. Maybe you could bring this to the next meeting? I do know that the board is trying to decide on an improvement to our community. Their goal is to have each elected board to make atleast one major improvement. Of course, this is dependant on funds.
Beware, some people are irrational to opinions or ideas unless it is there own. They seem to blow the smallest things out of proportion or read into things more than is intended. Buther is a perfect example as you read above.

Alert | Pepperdog,
To talk to a board member, you can go to www.maricopameadowshoa.com and register. Once you register, you can find some of their e-mail addresses under the contacts tab.

Alert | Celeste,
I'm with ya on this. Foreclosures and vacansied make it hard for a lot of stuff. I prefer nieghbors than empty houses and I especially prefer dues paying members!!!!!!
The basketball courts are an idea and if not now maybe some time in the future. I do not want to see an assessment at all if possible. I am against the HOA paying for anything that is not truely community related (such as trash pick up and like) Homeowners should be responsible for what they use individually and the HOA should not be a convienence for private business collections. Just my opinion....
Thanks again, you have helped me before. I work darn near every Saturday so I have not attended the HOA events but I am aware of the work you do. Keep it up! | | You are not authorized to post a reply!

Alert | | In the mean time, while we are trying to sort out expenditures, why can't the kids or anyone be allowed to use the Basketball Courts at the Middle School. Located behind the school. After all we are Tax Payers. We may need some supervision to prevent vandalism but, this may be an alternative to building our own courts for the time being.

Alert | | I have been thinking the same thing Snake eyes. I know in other cities you can use school grounds after school and on weekends. Part of the problem though is that the rest of the athletic stuff isn't in yet and the courts are not fenced off. | | You are not authorized to post a reply!

Alert | Hello cki557, Just a bit of friendly advice... Those pesky things we said in the past on these here Internet forums have a bad habit of showing up to haunt us:
<div class='NTForums_Quote'>Posted By cki557 on 10/01/2007 7:22 PM On another note, it has come to my attention that my comments on this forum are being used against me in other venues. This I will not stand for! If someone wants to quote me in any form of publication, just call me and I will give you a quote!]
It makes our detractors mad when we outsmart them, so I always plan several posts into the future what I really mean to say. Then you can refer back to post #xyz and use the winking emoticon.
As they say on Red/Green, "Keep your stick on the ice".

Alert | | Yes, the board has worked their majic again. Some how they managed to make censorship legal by not allowing the final MM Newsleter to be published. I guess the board can't handle the truth about the type of job they have done, or should it be the job that they have not done.

Alert | Sorry to be noisy but if I may make one suggestion..... I'm on the board at Cobblestone Farms.... If you do get basketball courts, please consider purchasing the break away hoops. You might want to suggest that the board gets quotes for them. Why? Kids tend to hang on the standard hoops, they bend, then are rendered useless.
We now have breakaway hoops and that's been the best investment of the communities money.
I can't tell you how many standard rims/hoops were replaced before we finally voted in and approved the break aways.

Alert | | Celeste you better not raise the HOA. Its absolutely rediculous where its at now for the Ammenities we DON'T have. Don't even think about raising the fees. You should work on getting rid of the bogus Maricopa Broadband fee we are paying. Put some time and effort into that one please. If you got rid of Maricopa Broadband, you could use that $30 per home towards lights in the park, or B-ball courts.

Alert | chrchrw, If the user name Buther belongs to the Buther family I'm aware of that goes door to door delivering the HOA Communication newsletters to save the HOA money; shows up at every community meeting and works very hard for this community, they had every right to set you straight on the fact that the committees are also volunteers. In the future, you should really watch what you say and how offensive your comments can be. That's a sure way to add fuel to an already "thankless" post and piss the volunteers off. That is unless you plan on walking in over 110 degrees around this community "volunteering" your services to this community - if you even live here. I bet you've never volunteered have you? If you had, you would have been more sensitive. My hats off to the Buthers!!

Alert | WOW!!! Go Willtell!!!!! Did it actually take you over a month to come up with those strong words? According to what you wrote, it sounds like you had a terrible day yesterday. I will tell you that you did stump me. People's ignorance tends to do that to me. Yup, that's all I have.
Hey Pepperdog! Are you able to change the name of your thread from Basketball Hoops to the Maricopa Meadows Whine Fest?
