There is a proposal by the Board of the HOA that we have the quarterly Maricopa Disposal bill added into our quarterly HOA fees, so it will appear on our statements and be bundled in with the HOA and cable fees we already pay. We would no longer receive the little post cards from Maricopa Disposal then, and it would be one less bill to pay individually every quarter.

Just wondering what people think about this idea? I can see pros and cons . . . .

What about the recyle bins?
Does everyone have them? I thought we pay extra for them.

In Desert Cedars we already do that. Love it actually. One less bill to worry about.

I think the Recycle Bins are included in the regular Maricopa Disposal fee. I have never seen the charge separated on my bill . . . .

Yeah, you get two bins. One for regular trash and a recycle bin.

I can see where it is definitely a WIN for Maricopa Disposal! But are they paying your HOA management Company an administrative fee to handle their billing for them?

What about if someone doesn't pay their HOA fee - then does Maricopa Disposal stop collecting their trash?

What would happen if a homeowner didn't want Maricopa Disposal to collect their trash at all - like if they were out of town for a month or something. Does your HOA management company handle that, or do you still notify Maricopa Disposal?

The contract price is lower than what someone else pays. It is for the entire community. Every homeowner pays through their dues.

If the dues aren't paid that isn't the responsibility of the trash company they still get their money either way. As for vacation stop....I don't really know. I would have to guess that the homeowner just doesn't put the trash out. But the bill doesn't stop because of it either.

I like this idea. I always forget to pay the trash and I never get the post card.

I don't like the idea... right now we can put a "hold" on the trash and get credit if we go out of town. If they auto bill would that be an option?

I'm not real happy with them right now I'd hate to feel like I have even less "say" with them then I already do because they wouldn't bill us directly. We just received our post card bill and they charged us $4 for "extra" stuff when we were not even in town the week they charged (luckly I have plane tickets to prove it). A few months ago they missed my trash altogether. I called to find out why and was told it was because my can wasn't at the street at 6am when the garbage was collected. I took the can out the night before.... at FIVE when my kid was playing on her bike. I explained that and was told they could come back on Monday. I told them I expected it to be picked up Friday morning, otherwise we'd end up overflowing because we had company in the town the weekend prior. They picked up the trash Friday morning and were kind enough to put a sticker that said "PLEASE REMEMBER TO PLACE YOUR CAN AT THE CURB AT 6AM". I was tempted to wrap a sign around the entire can the next week that said "PLEASE DON'T FORGET ME" but my husband said I'd be going overboard.

NOW... don't get me wrong - I'd be all for having them bill our HOA but considering they already have customer service "issues", I'd hate to give them reason to be any less customer friendly. Plus, I heard our HOA management company was having huge problems collecting dues from a large % of the owners in our development. Why would we give them (or the people that don't pay) reason to fall further behind? How would it impact an owner that's trying to sell and has to vacate the home, do they still pay for trash service although the home is empty? What about forclosures... are those homes still billed? Who makes up the difference between the trash fees that are paid and those that are not paid? The homeowners that pay their dues?
Seems to me like the only entity that wins is Maricopa Disposal.....

I don't want this to be added to my HOA....we are having enough trouble collecting HOA's dues, can you imagine if this is added....let me make the decision if I would rather pay Maricopa Disposal or take my trash to the dump.....

Everytime we add to our HOA's dues who do you think profits????? YOU OR PDS.

This is not a good idea. Why should everyone be locked into using just this disposal service. The dues should be used for HOA issues. Trash container pick up is not an HOA issue. Leaving your containers out to long is a HOA issue.

If you don't want to use Maricopa Broad Band you still have to pay for it because the payment is part of the HOA dues. Is cable service part of the HOA issues, it shouldn't be. When did HOA's become a bill collection service?

It should be an individual choice to pay for the services they want. If I want my dues to include waste pick up, cable, lawn care, etc. then give those options.

If I had an option to NOT use Maricopa Disposal I would easily take it even if it was more $$$. I have had issues with them before and detest the fact that I have to send them a check. I would hate to be locked into using them. Cannot wait for options.

I originally was told this was going to be part of our HOA dues, but I am kind of glad it worked out this way.

Kind of off topic, but get rid of the Cable company. They weren't ready when I moved in, (in fact, I still did not have a basic cable signal for months after I moved.) so I had to get satellite just to get a decent quality picture. Yet, I am still paying for this crap as part of my HOA dues and I don't use it on a single TV in my house.

At least I use the trash service.

However, I agree. The HOA should be responsible for maintaining shared community areas. Like getting this Brown Belt I was told would be a Green Belt with Grass to cut down on the dust. After all, it is Maricopa Meadow's (name indicates green pastures, not DESERT...anyway...I am off topic again). Take care of the responsibilities that should be the HOA's, and let the free market decide which products and services to use.

My 2 Cents....

I am leaning towards thinking it is a bad idea. We are already stuck paying for the cable company because the builders signed a 15 year contract (or some such) that we can't get out of! What if we sign a contract with Maricopa Disposal and then another trash company sets up shop in Maricopa? The choice to switch would be taken away from us unless we wanted to pay for TWO trash services - kind of like those of us who are paying for satellite and cable now!! I hope the Board does not vote for this!

I say, NO, NO, NO !!!!
I hope enough people show up at the meeting to voice their opinions...... Or we may end up paying both MB and the disposal in our HOA dues for the next 15 yrs.

As a Board member, I can see the pros and cons of this issue. There is NO way that this board would stick all of us homeowners with a massive contract due to the facts and reasons that you have discussed. I know that it was brought forth as many homeowners have inquired about the possibility of having it included. This is our due diligence on the matter and all avenues will be discussed at our next open meeting August 11. I feel the same way as many of you, I dont want to pay for anyone else's trash bill because they dont/can't.
