I am looking at a house in the Lakes. There are no less than a million mosquitos all over the windows and flying around everywhere outside the house. For those of you who do actually live in the Lakes, how do you deal with all those mosquitos?

I don't live on one of the lakes, but very near to one.  I haven't seen one mosquito, even with me constantly watering my mud trying to make grass.

I live in a home at the Lakes (in Rancho el Dorado) and never see mosquitoes. I haven't even been bit once. We do use a bug service, if that makes any difference. I haven't seen the lakes or our pool attracting mosquitoes. Are you sure it wasn't gnats that you were seeing? When looking at some of the homes being built in the Meritage development recently I saw a few gnats, but I live in a Hacienda home and have never noticed mosquitoes being a problem.

I think I've seen one or two. I actually got one bite a few days ago but never say the skeeter that got me. I'm outside a lot grilling and in the pool and very rarely see any. We're not right on the lakes but still in the development.

That person does not live in the "true" lakes. I have been on bike rides and car rides around there and the bugs are horrible. I don't think any building has actually been happening there yet so you probably won't get many responses.

Gnat IS actually spelled with a "G".

Taken from Encyclopedia Britannica:

Gnat
(insect)

Any member of several species of small flies that bite and annoy humans. Several non-biting insects, such as the midges, which resemble mosquitoes, are also sometimes known as gnats. In North America the name is often applied to the black fly, midge, fungus gnat, biting midge, fruit fly, and other small flies that hover about the eyes of humans and other animals.

And, I do live at the Lakes in Rancho el Dorado in a house near the lakes.   The mosquitos must only be attracted to certain people, maybe it's a scent.  Luckily for my husband, me and the people we have had over, we haven't been affected by any mosquitos.

Haha, the "true" Lakes. Well, when I drive home the big entrance says "The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado." Is that the true lakes or are you guys talking about a little pond out by the cows pastures?

Also, they've never stopped building here in the Lakes. Has slowed down like everywhere else though.

In yo face! Boo ya!!

The Northern portion where they have the road closed going in and just models but no homes actually built on the "lakes".  Boo-Yah.

The point is, people DO live at The Lakes in Rancho el Dorado, obviously not you llggs.  And, we are not being bothered by mosquitos.

The original question asked what WE (the real residents of the lakes, again not you llggs) do about the mosquitos.  The answer to that question is that we really don't have to do anything.  The lakes are stocked with mosquito-eating fish by our HOA, and from what I have noticed, this has been effective.

Boo ya!!
