OMG BMW...my hubby and I took the baby for a stroller ride the other night and as we were walking past one of those overgrown, empty lots I saw a giant a$$ spider on the sidewalk. I made my husband see what it was in case it was just a leaf or something and I ran of the sidewalk with the stroller....and the damn thing chased me! I KID YOU NOT! It freaking chased me. Thank goodness we have only had one spider like that at our house so far (knock on wood). You are right though, it is a serious breeding ground for all kinds of critters....and so are the overgrown bushes that the landscape company never prunes. I'm pretty tired of paying landscapers to stand around and not do crap. I'm sorry, but our landscaping is a joke. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. I personally think that less is more. Our front yard has a tree on each side of the driveway and a ridiculous number of bushes....but the HOA says they're all required!! So hopefully if KB does leave we can take over the HOA and get this place cleaned up!

We need to switch out landscaping to H&N. They are doing wonders in other communities around here.

Proud Momma of 2 beautiful boys!!!

It just doesn't make sense why plants are dying, nothing is pruned properly and there are weeds everywhere....yet we are paying for landscapers to keep it cleaned up. The other thing that's annoying is that there's no "landscaping" really...it's just a bunch of random plants everywhere. I drove by one of the communities off of Honeycutt and their greenbelt was so pretty....it just had rows of all the same kind of bushes surrounding the grass area instead of 10 different things randomly scattered. I'm not familiar with any of the landscaping companies...I would just like one that is able to cut back on what we have and make it look tasteful.

I'm picturing a Harry Potter spider from whichever movie that was right now!!

I see widows all over the place and have seen one (some type of) recluse spider in my garage, now deceased and forever a part of the hockey stick used to bash it.  How big was the thing?

Well, it wasn't as big as the Harry Potter spider...but it was big enough that I could spot it from like 4 feet away while walking...it was just a wolf spider, but the freaking thing chased me! We had a wolf spider on our back patio and when my husband stepped on it hundreds of baby spiders scattered...thank goodness the hose was right there so my husband sprayed down the whole patio and yard...ick.

When we were looking for our cat we saw tons of black widows in all of the storm drains. The scary thing is that I see kids playing in the storm drains all the time!! We probably saw at least ten in just the opening of each storm drain.

Are you sure it was a recluse? That scares the crap out of me. There was a guy in my Bio class like a year ago who got bit by a brown recluse and it totally ate a hole in his arm. It was so freaking gross.

I really think if we clean up all the crap (okay, if the HOA cleans up all the crap) in the empty lots and around the greenbelts it could help with the spider situation. We keep all of our trees and bushes cut way back and it has definitely decreased our bug population. I am deathly afraid of spiders, so I'm all for anything that gets rid of them.

Definitely some kind of recluse. Dark grey and not hairy, imo, not quite as mean looking as a wolfy. It's the first one I've seen here, though I have seen my share of wolf spiders, also a part of that hockey stick.

that is creepy. We had some kind of really big, scary looking spider by our front door...it was like a yellowish/clearish sort of color. I had nightmares for several days after I saw it. ugh. Maybe I should buy myself a hockey stick We just keep a can of raid by the front door.
