Everyone thinks they are a good person to some extent. The truth is most people are what we call "good". But what defines good?

Answer a few questions to see if you are a good person.

1. Have you ever lied before, no matter how little of a lie it was or how many times you have lied?

2. Have you ever stolen anything in your life, no matter how small or the value?

3. Have you ever used God's name as a cuss word? Like: god da$#, or just yell out "Jesus" in anger. This is called blasphemy.

4. Have you ever lusted after someone? Jesus says that anyone that has lusted after another has already committed adultery in his own heart.

Why these questions??? Because this is God's law, these are 4 of the 10 commandments.

And anyone that has broken God's law has sinned.

And if I was to answer these 4 questions honestly, I know I am, a lying(1), thieving(2), blasphemer(3), and adulterer(4).

So on the Day of Judgment, based on God's Law, do you think you are innocent or guilty. I know I would be guilty as would you.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

Well, one might say they don't believe in God. Well, if I was to say I don't believe in gravity. Guess what? I would still fall if I jumped off a building.

Maybe you have your own idea of how to get to heaven.

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12

So if we are all sinners, how do we avoid hell???

Well guess what??? God sent his own son to pay the price for all our sins.

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." 1 Peter 3:18

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

Jesus Christ died on the Cross and rose from the grave. He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and people. By God's grace, not by our works, we are saved.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

So what do you need to do, to have this gift from God, and receive eternal life in heaven???

We must repent (turn from sin) and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and receive Him by personal invitation. He is waiting to take you in no matter where you are at in life: good or bad.

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

I only put this on here because I care about every one of you. I want everyone to experience what it means to have a relationship with God.

This is not about religion; it is about a relationship between you and Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your time.

Blessings,

motoman

The Way of the Master!!!

Yeah, it's true- He allowed the fall of man/
But He used it now to exalt the Lamb/
The Lord, who's wise, permits existence of sin/
to be glorified in His forgiveness to men/

Motoman,

Thanks for picking the commandments I don't struggle with  Now, if you had picked the ones I DO struggle with, we would be in a world of hurt!  I think you just managed to land on the 3 that I have down!

I really appreciate your post.  I think being reminded of Christ and the atonement is something we cannot be reminded of enough.

Thank you.

Pascal's wager? Not sure I can fool god by "acting" as if he exists. If he is living, he knows that I don't think that he lives. I don't think pretending is going to be a good use of my time.

You got a couple good commandments. Here's another:

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Deuteronomy 14: But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you.

Exodus 9-11 For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and consecrated it.

If you go out to eat on Sunday, go to the movies, or go to the store. You are actively engaging people to work for you. This is forbidden and is a major sin.

The law was not created for us to be able to follow. It was created to show how high of standard God has for people and that we in our sinful status can not follow it completely.

Galatians 2:15-22

15"We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' 16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

17"If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. 19For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

But to cover what the New Testament says about the Sabbath.

Mark 2:27 Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

The sabbath is a sacred and Divine institution; a privilege and benefit, not a task and drudgery. God never designed it to be a burden to us, therefore we must not make it so to ourselves. The sabbath was instituted for the good of mankind, as living in society, having many wants and troubles, preparing for a state of happiness or misery. Man was not made for the sabbath, as if his keeping it could be of service to God, nor was he commanded to keep it outward observances to his real hurt. Every observance respecting it, is to be interpreted by the rule of mercy. -Matthew Henry

Chimneyduck,   Both are from the Old Testament and therefore don't apply to Christians today.

Oh and on Pascal's wager, I just though you might find that interresting. I know you cannot fool God obviously. I just think it is one of those things that could possibly get someone to start looking at the possibility of a belief in God. I was an atheist/agnostic until I was 26.  It just took the possibility of a God to get me interrested in looking into all religions. 6 months later I gave my life to Christ. Craziest thing that has ever happened to me, but also the best.

Isn't it interesting that the question, "are you a good person?", became a discussion about religion? I suppose that should not be surprising as this is a religious forum. Perhaps a more interesting task  would be to define a good person, or perhaps more basically, define goodness. What is goodness? Do you have to be a Christian to be good? Do you have to be religious to be good? Can an atheist be good? Is goodness an absolute constant, with a definition that is the same in all times, places and societies? Would an Aztec priest who was kind and generous to all of his people, but who also cut the heart out of human sacrifices with the intent of saving his people by appeasing the gods , be considered good?

This is a good point.  Who measures "good"?  Society?  I am digging the Aztec priest, as long as I ain't the sacrifice....lol

Well, I think it turned to religion because the purpose of the original poster was to recruit.

Interestingly enough, the 4 sins (5 if you include the sabbath) most aren't sins in my book, at least as the examples given.

1) Small lies "No, you don't look fat in that dress."
2) Stealing, well ok. . . that's a sin.
3) God's name in vain. "sticks and stones" good enough for me, should be good enough for God.
4) Lusting after someone. Um, I guess if you want to make everyone a sinner, this one is a must.

Well ChimneyDuck, I use to think exactly like you, so I can relate to your comments, but what if God doesn't go by your standards?

I often act with complete disregard to my intelligence and best interest. Am I a good person; I would say I’m a struggling person. While sometimes my stupidity can’t be diminished; thankfully, it can be forgiven…

And the name on my lips is, Jesus.

If God doesn't go by my standards, he can have a chat with me and we'll have a little discussion. He may be persuasive. I've heard he can be. But until he decides to meet with me, I'll have to assume my conscience is my best guide.
