We wish! But Islam is a theocratic belief system. Since Muhammad himself, the goal has been a world wide Islamic state under the dictates of the Koran.

Islam: The Religion of Peace*
* so long as you aren't Jewish, Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, agnostic, atheistic, liberal, affluent, female, redheaded, homosexual, pacifistic...

Or Shi'is to Sunni and Sunni to Shi'is.

Islam is a perfect tool for a tyrant. As long as you're the mullah, you get to make the rules and others are obligated to follow under penalty of death or dismemberment. Wholesale murder and mayhem in the name of Allah.

No. Islam by it's very nature is intolerant. While not all Muslims are extremists, the extremists use their interpretation of the Koran to justify mass homicide and other atrocities.

I feel the same way about certain so called christians in this country. Usually they are southern baptist but any whacked out fire and brimstone christian is usually out there. These are the ones that blow up abortion clinics and preach hate. The bible has been interpreted in negative ways just as the Koran has.

This sounds a lot like the war on terror.

caveman - a basic difference is the fact that Christians who act as you describe are violating the teachings of Christ.Muslims who use violence against non-Muslims are obeying the teachings of the Koran. If you doubt this, read the Koran, it pulls no punches. The Koran expressly instructs Muslims to kill, behead, and maim non-Muslims. Where in the New Testament does Christ give any such instructions?

Actually muslims coexist in so many places peacefully including some african and middleeastern countries. Before saddam there was even a christian sect in baghdad. There was even a christian faith started in Iran.

True, but in most areas where Muslims are dominant other religions are, at best, tolerated. They can exist if they accept second class citizenship and keep a low profile. What do you think would happen to a small Christian minority in a Muslim nation if they dared to demonstrate or march in protest?
