Alert | | i used to believe in karma. if i do good things and i was nice to people...nice and good things would happen to me. however, my thoughts changed quite a bit after having children. my 1st daughter ended up in the hospital with a bad virus, then was bitten by a dog a year and a half later and ended up in the hospital again.(she's fine now.) but i thought about it when she was in the hospital. she was only 2 years old and never did a single thing to anything or anyone to deserve such an injustice. and i know i have never done anything that bad in my life that my karma was biting me in the butt and having my daughter suffer for it. and i'm sure as hell she didn't do anything in a former life that was evil, otherwise, she wouldn't have come back as such a great and beautiful child. so, how does karma work in that aspect? the way i think now is much like my scientific minded husband thinks....good things happen and bad things happen. doesn't mean that they have to be related or connected. if you live long enough, good and bad things happening are inevitable. i'm still the loving person i've always been. even though i don't truly believe in karma any longer, doesn't mean that i don't treat people with the same respect and dignity that i did when i believed in karma. but look at how so many children suffer these days...neglect, abuse, hunger, etc. i don't believe they did anything to warrant bad karma. |

Alert | | I can't say what my particular karma is...I try my best to be a good person. Hopefully good enough that I can be reincarnated as a dolphin in my next life, so I don't need scuba gear to explore the ocean. Or a fat, lazy housecat who has nothing to do all day but catch the occasional dust mite, lol...j/k on that last one. *smile* | | "Ain't nothin' but a barn dance, sugar. You make some very good points MW. That's why I'm finding this to be an interesting discussion. Thanks for your input. | | Karma is a female dog

Alert | I don't know about all this mumbo-jumbo, other than to state that I think the Golden Rule applies. When we're kind to people, we tend to be granted kindness in return. when we're surly to people, that surliness bounces back at us. That really shouldn't be so shocking, but to a lot of people it is.
I don't worry too much about the whole reincarnation business. My personal feeling is that I've got enough going on right this instant in my own human existence that any worry of what sort of horse I'll return as is a silly waste of time.

And I agree. I'm not a believer in reincarnation. But it would be interesting if it were true. Wouldn't it warm your black little heart to believe that right now, somewhere, Hitler has been reincarnated as a rat and Saddam is living a pitiful existence as a cockroach? | | Karma is a female dog

Alert | | I am a firm believer in Karma, you wouldn't even recognize me from a few years ago. I was the biggist bitch there was no matter what happened it was your fault. I screemed at people in the store, at the daycare at work and my life was misserable-- I was almost at the level of divorce. One day I decided that i had had enough and made an attempt to smile at every person I saw, drive the speed limit no matter what, and things changed. For every positive action there is a positive reaction and there is no body out there that can prove different. If you live a positive life positive things will happen to you. I am living proof of that and I have never been happier. | | Senior Member 406 posts Joined May 2005

Alert | Karma is just common sense. Be nice to others, they'll probably be nice to you. Abide by society's rules and regulations, you won't get into trouble, etc.. However, I have never liked the idea of reincarnation. Coming back as a rat or a cockroach would be nothing as coming back as one of the billion of people who live in 3rd world nations without enouth to eat, no medical treatment....you get my drift. I am keenly aware of how lucky I am that I live in such prosperity and that with just a flip of a coin it could be so very different! I'd much rather have "nothingness" after death than coming back to such a horrible, suffering life many humans share.
