Alert | So I just adopted a puppy last Friday then Saturday found out she has parvo. She didn’t get terribly sick but we still needed to have her treated. I called our normal vet, the OTHER vet in town, and they pretty much told me over the phone that they are not equipped to handle it and there isn’t much they can do. I asked about med's and was told there was no medication that would help. Now I knew that there wasn’t a cure for parvo but there are med's that can give them a fighting chance. I wanted a second opinion. I also was a bit hesitant about taking her there because when I took my other dog in for mange they seemed to drive up my costs by doing unnecessary tests. He tested positive for mange but they said they wanted to test him for a few other things. He didn’t even have any symptoms of these other things they were testing him for. It was like they were trying to make me feel like a bad pet owner if I didn’t agree to all the other tests. Then before even getting the results back on the tests they had me pay for and start treating him for something that it turns out he didn’t even have. They told me to put ringworm medication on his mange spots. We only did it a couple of times, he cried and cried, and I am glad I stopped putting it on.
Anyways, I then called Maricopa Wells and they were very helpful on the phone and were able to get her in the same day. The staff was very kind and professional, unlike the OTHER vet, where last time I was in waiting for the vet tech I had to hear conversations between the receptionist and her boyfriend. Then had me sit in a tiny cramped room for 20 + minutes and no one came back in to check on us. Anyways, they got her right in and told me what exactly is going on with her and gave me the option of admitting her or taking her back home with some med's. She wasn’t too bad off so we took her home. The medication subscribed and the home remedies we were told to do are working great! She is doing much better. She looks as though she will make it through this. I was very pleased when they called the next day to check in on her.
I am very happy with the care of my pet at Maricopa Wells Vet Hospital. I will definitely be taking my pets there from now on.

Alert | | They truly are wonderful. Very compassionate. The Dr and techs were crying with me when we had to put Butterscotch down.

Alert | | So if you are going to Bash somebody, why don't you just get a sack and slander them by using their name? I've been to that OTHER vet a few times and have gotten superb service each time. They are very caring and don't try to soak you for unneeded testing. They call back to check on your pet also. So maybe it's you and not them that creates a poor customer service relationship!

Alert | | J&A - Congrats on the new pup! I'm so gald you did decide to get a 2nd opionion because Parvo is VERY treatable if caught early! Good work identifying symptoms & seeing vet care immediately! As far as MAH not being equipped to handle Parvo, I'm assuming some sort of communication break down occured between you and the person on the othe end of the phone. They've been treating numerous Parvo cases daily for weeks now & they are the office that actually called me to ask me to help get the word out about the pups that kept coming in from Maricopa Meadows Park w/ Parvo. I haven't been in their office or spoken directly w/ any staff there recently, but I know they do indeed treat Parvo & numerous other doggy diseases. Glad you experienced exceptional service at MWVH though! And more importantly, glad your pup will be safe & is in what seems to be your wonderful home.

Alert | So now I am not allowed to express my opinion?! That’s just great. I have had nothing but bad experiences with Maricopa Animal Hospital and I am not allowed to say anything? I thought it was a FORUM, where people express THEMSELVES. So people can talk about problems they have at local restaurants or grocery stores but I cant about a vet?
PSW, well that’s exactly what I was told. The lady on the phone told me that they could test for the parvo but if its positive it would be better for me to take her to a 24 hour care facility. I asked about home treatments and was told that there are none. I was told that they could possibly give her a shot to boost her immune system, but when I asked if there was anything else, I was told no. They never even mentioned Tamiflu to me over the phone as Maricopa Wells did. The person I talked to, instead of saying what they could do to give her a fighting chance basically was just telling me about how many dogs they have had to put down from it. I am sure that I just reached someone that maybe just did not know what exactly they were talking about but with the other numerous bad experiences I have had with them I wasn’t going to risk it.

Alert | I'm just glad for your pooch that you were able to connect w/ MWVH. Exceptional Vets there and in Dr. V's own words on the news last week, "Parvo is very treatable."
I'm not in any way doubting your report of what was told to you by whomever answered the phone @ MAH, I'm just sad that they seem overwhelmed by all the Parvo cases they've seen to effectively manage the cases that may continue to come in.
