Anyone have a boston terrier? I was researching them, because I was thinking about getting one, a puppy. Wondered what experiences anyone might have, suggestions, reasons not to get this breed, etc..... Thanks!

I have one and she is a crack up!!! I also have 2 boxers so... The boston thinks she is a boxer! She is stubborn and wont go on a leash...I have tried since day one and as soon as I put the leash on her collar...she falls over dead and lays their like a lump!! I have also tried a body harness and the same thing happens. I have tried for 3 years and NOTHING!

She gets along with my cats and toddler. We originally got her for the older kid but since the Boston is so attached to the boxers she wanted to sleep with them!

The have quite the strong personality and I am sure the leash thing is just applicable to MY dog...I always find the demented animals (I have a cat with OCD and the male boxer... well lets just say the lights are on but nobody is home!)

I recommend a book called "The right dog for you" by Daniel Tortora

It tells you the good and bad traits of the breeds. If you are set on a puppy- I do recommend getting the puppy from a reputable breeder BUT if possible contact a Boston Terrier rescue.

She barks but only if the doobell rings or someone knocks...and isnt that what she is suppose to do..it her job! other than that she doesnt yelp or bark. So that was a plus for me I HATE yippy dogS!!!

Animal Planet also has a Dog Breed Directory that's really good, you put in your specifics and they give you a list of breeds that should work for you and their traits. you can also search by breed. http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselectorindex.do

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

I have a female Boston Terrier who will be 13 this month, I have had her since she was 3 months old. She has been my baby! They are wonderful, loyal dogs. You just have to be careful with heat & if they get bit by something. With the smooshed faces they could have trouble breathing. Anytime mine has gotten a reaction to an ant bite or something, she has swelled up so I start giving her benedryal. Also, don't make the same mistake I made by letting her jump down from something too high like a car or truck, she ended up getting a herniated disk. I was also told early on that breeding them could be tricky because of the size of their heads.. You won't regret getting one, they are smart little buggers!

So I discovered that my lil Boston terrier is smarter than ME! Since it rained the doggies cant use the backyard (they will sink in the mud!) so I have to take them for a lil walk around the hood. Well I was dreading this something awful with her cus of her leash issues. WELL seems she doesnt need a leash...She walked/heeled on my left side the entire walk and even stopped and sat when I stopped!!! She did her business and then we came home. She did this not once not twice but 4 times. I took the leash along with us just in case but I was pretty impressed with her!!!

So I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!! (me being the old dog!)

Got a boston today, and he is just the cutest and sweetest thing! Definately a cuddler. In fact, he is curled up on the couch with "dad", sound asleep after getting a nice warm bath!

This is a pic of Stinkerbell's Boston and Boxer. Both of them look like they pulled an all-nighter at the New Yorker and then picked up a 12-pack on the way home. Of course, they ARE Stinkerbell's dogs

We have had two Boston Terriers. The first one was a male that we adopted from our vet. He was found by the vet's wife and no one claimed him. We had him 10 years before his death in November 2006. I recently got a second one, also a male. This one is now eleven months old and is bigger (22 pounds) then the first one.

I like small dogs, even though I also have a Boxer. Our other dog is a French Bulldog. Frenchies are a lot like Boston Terriers except they make a lot more noises (snorts, snores etc.).

Boston Terriers are house dogs and cannot tolerate extreme heat or cold for long periods. I have not brought my Boston Terriers to Maricopa (my primary home is in Tulsa, OK and my second home is in Maricopa) but they seem to tolerate the summer heat in Oklahoma well.

Some interesting facts about Boston Terriers: They are the only dog breed that is truly American. The breed was of course started in Boston in the late 1890s. Allegedly, all other dog breeds started in countries other than the United States. In the 1920 and 30s Boston Terriers were the most popular breed in America.

In my eleven years experience with Boston Terriers, they are well tempered, patient and friendly. They love to sit on laps during the day and sleep under the blankets at night.

My boston is a trip. One question however..I have been reading and reading and reading about this reverse sneezing thing... Can you describe it? I am assuming that this is what he is doing, and if so, it is the oddest sounding thing I have ever heard. He sounds as if he's gagging on snot, and then he makes this sound which really does sound like he's sneezing in instead of out. It's almost scary and humorous at the same time....

Yea, that's my puppy, Dutch.

He didn't do the reverse sneezing until Friday, when it started raining. It got better yesterday, but then overnight, it started to be a lot again, of course it was raining. So, I am wondering if the rain is aggrevating it, as we never heard it before.

My beagle has reverse sneezed all her life. Usually when she gets excited. It goes away pretty quickly when it starts. I don't worry anymore about it.

Stinker - GREAT pic. They're gorgeous!

bryant - Dutch is absolutely adorable! Congrats on the new family member. If you need some links for trainers in town or about crate training & such, just let me know. kimberly@houndathome.com

Boston Terriers are the best. I have had this breed all of my life. They are lap dogs, but also have a lot of energy to run around with. I love watching my two Bostons (Mother and Son) play fight. They seem to have the best time playing keep away. They are 10 and 11 and nobody would ever guess that they are that old. My male is 25 pounds which is quite big for a Boston. He is a lot taller and longer then his mommy. They are such great companions.

Are you ready for some football?

Maybe we should all get our Bostons together and form a club.
