Alert | Patton is a very lucky boy. As I was trying to get that other dog off Patton, all I could think of was, I'm gonna lose him tonight.
He was bit on on the chest. The dog luckily attached attached to his ear, but must have first tried to get his neck. He has a puncture wound to his trachea area. The vet was concerned the pit bull punctured his trachea, but we believe the dog only hit muscle, since he was okay breathing, and was not wheezing.
He pit bull missed his jugular by an half of an inch. If he would have hit is jugular, he would have bled out on the street in 5 minutes. Thank God that horrible pit bull missed it.
This right ear is where most of the damage was. The pit bull latched on there, and really tore up his ear in several places. The vet was able to suture one of the wounds, but couldn't stitch the rest, since of their position on his head. So, we will be dealing with open wounds trying to heal.
I NEED TO THANK STACEY FROM MARICOPA WELLS. She happed to live across the street. She heard my screams, and once we pulled them apart, she took me into her home, and first assessed Patton, and bandaged him up, until we could race to the e-vet. She was so kind. I was in hysterics, and she was wonderful. I will contacting her, to thank her- I was grateful for her. She also helped calling AC, and telling me watch I needed to do to report the attack. | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | The dog ran out of someone's home. Loose, no lead. Poor Patton was in the street, (we were walking on the curb since it was trash day Friday, and trashcans were out), on his lead.
Mommystacey, I would never have gotten through Thursday night without you. You helped calm me down, and determine the next steps and actions in Patton's care.
Also, if you could send me any information on the neighbors who pulled the dogs apart? If you know? I need to thank them- they saved Patton's life, and I need to thank them. I was in hysterics, and so concerned about Patton, I never really thanked them.
Patton comes home this morning. I cannot wait to get him. I miss him. Sherman has been very low key since Thursday. A lot of crying and whining, and staying curled up in his bed. Yeah, greyhounds are lazy, but he hasn't really eaten, and when I brought him home new toys yesterday, he did not acknowledge it. Usually he loses his mind with excitement.
The main concern is infection, and that rotten puncture wound in his chest. It was still draining blood Friday morning (EW), and the vet said it needs to continue draining. I REALLY hope its finished draining, and he does not come of with any medical apparatuses like a wound vac/drain. | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | The responsible thing to do now is report this incident. You are very lucky. However, this will happen again if you don't take action. Next time it may be a child. I am glad your dog is going to be ok. Don't you live in RED? I walk my neighbor's dog all the time......I don't know what I would do in a case like this. You are lucky your neighbor was there to help.
I hope you report this immediately and have the owners pay the huge vet bill as well!
Please keep us posted on your dog's progress.

Alert | That is what I was afraid of. I believe I know what street you live on and I will be sure and not walk there anymore with my neighbor's dog until this is fully resolved.
My brother's Doberman attacked a neighbor's poodle when we were young. Thankfully it lived! However, my brother's dog should have been put down at that point because she attacked another dog and ended up killing our collie in our house, she got her jugular vein and our collie was killed. It was horrific!
I can only imagine the terror you felt during this ordeal. I certainly hope Animal Control permanently takes care of this animal.
Seriously, please keep me posted on this as my boys walk that way to get to their friend's house.
Did you have to take Patton to First Regional Animal Hospital that evening?
Lucky that Stacey is your neighbor and acted so promptly and clear headed. I don't do well in situations like that and if blood is involved I am even worse.

Alert | We had to take Patton to the e-vet. We took him to Emergency Aminal Clinic on Gilbert and Guadalupe (Juniper Ave.) Further away, but they were FANTASTIC!
Patton is home. Yay! His puncture wound is healing nicely, and his stitches are looking as good as stitches can. He is eating, drinking, and slowly returning to his normal self.
This dog missed Patton's jugular by less than half an inch. If the dog had gotten him, I would have lost Patton in 5 minutes.
I got Patton out yesterday afternoon immediately for a short walk. We did not (nor will we ever) went down the street the attack occured, but we stayed close to home. He was very timid, and a little anixous, and showed anxiety when we saw other dogs. We'll work through it.
The big bummer is Patton was able to stick up both ears if you spoke to him, or he was listening to something. Now, he can only stick up the good ear, and the bad ear sticks out to the side. He looks silly, but if that is the only permanent damage, I count my blessings.

Alert | | Ahh that is so ggod to hear that he is doing better. I do not know my neighbors that well (i know... sad) and I am not sure who all helped but you thanked alot of people that night and I am sure that they know who you felt. I just hope you all can over come this. It was a horrible experence and it all gets better. His ear may stand up again once his ear heals but if not he could be the cool dog with the story to tell all the other dogs!

Alert | | Glad to hear your dog is doing well. Does anybody know why people allow their dogs to be in their front yard unattended? I was walking my Doberman the other day on the north side of the street and a large German Shepard ran at us from an open garage on the south side of the road. Luckily the German Shepard didn't attack but was growling and had all its hair on its back standing up. My Doberman is just a big puppy so she didn't know what to think of the situation. Of course I was just really irritated that someone would leave such a large, protective German Shepard out to do whatever it wanted with zero supervision. No, I haven't went back to the homeowner to tell them my story - Yes, I know I should and probably will but it hasn't been on the top of my to-do list.

Alert | | Even if you don't have the compassion to consider what a dog could do to a person or a pet, you would think that people might consider liability. Especially if a child is hurt by an unleashed dog, even on its' own property, there's no doubt that the dog owner would be liable for whatever damages came along. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | | People are just pain irrisponsible these days. I feel bad for some of these dogs and cats because there Owners are just idiots! Its in alot of dogs natures to protect and or become aggressive to other animals and so everyone should lesh there pet. Even for the fact that they coul run away even if they are always good and walk next to you, you nevery know what they may see and want to chase. There are so many lost pets out there these days. Something need to be done about these types of owners

Alert | Patton is doing well. His stitches are very nicely done, and healing nicely. The puncture wound is also healing nicely. He's back to his normal, goofy self, in the house! Yay Patton! | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | That dog should be put to sleep before it attacks a child. It is just a matter of time and opportunity. Glad that your pet will be ok.

Alert | | I was driving through RED today--ok, so I get lost everytime I try to go to the Duke, and was amazed at the number of people that were out walking dogs. But one thing really bothered me--a guy had his dog tied to his car, this car was parked on the street and the dog could get out into the street!!! Anyone else see this as a stupid thing to do?? | | The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)
