Alert | Its simply sad. I do not believe in the destruction of one breed. Its sad. I know these are loved animals; however, I do believe in extra precautions to prevent these attacks. Yes, not all pitbulls attack, and other dogs attack. I also believe once a dog attacks, if it is a vicious attack, and the dog is not to be trusted, it either needs to be put down, or placed in an environment, where it is not likely to inflict harm on other people or animals, such as a farm, or an owner with a lot of land, no children and no other pets, who is aware of the dog's history. | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | I saw a man at the park with a pit bull, he identified it as such, standing in the play area, allowing children to pet it. I got between the kids and the dog and asked why he brought it there. His explanation? So that it can get socialized. So obviously not all pit owners are bright. I don't know enough about breeds to make a choice about whether one is consistently more dangerous than another and if it is by design. I do know that I have an Aussie/BC mix who herds by instinct and who threw herself in front of my son at 8 months old to protect him from a strange dog. I never taught her that. I have had Siamese cats who howl and hunt and think like no other breed that I have owned. Even the half Siamese cat was smarter than the others. So it can't be just nurture. Characteristics are bred in and out of animals over generations so there must be merit to aggression by design. So pits are bred to attack only other dogs and are safe around people? Well that doesn't seem to be true when so many stories revolve arounds pits who just SNAP. I have a neighbor who has told me that he has five pits and that he doesn't trust them around my dogs. So I am afraid to walk them by his house in case he opens his door as we pass. That's a lot of risk for just an animal. | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Scary. What are our rights to be allowed to walk in our neighborhoods without fear? | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | | It is so sad that pits have gotten such a bad rap. I know quite a few people who have them and they are all very, very friendly and not at all aggresive. Unfortunately a lot of really bad people have give them a bad name.

Unfortunately every tine you hear of an attack, this is what the owners say. The owner of the pit who attacked Patton said their dog was the best, loving pet. Until the pit attacked, unprovoked.

Alert | The person who has five pits needs a kennel license in this county. I am sure that his the company who provides his homeowner insurance might have something to say about it. Many have exclusion clauses restricting ownership of certain breeds and/or quantities of dogs. I would think that the HOA may have a position on it as well.
If he is ignorant enough to state that he doesn't trust them around other dogs then he knows he has a problem. He also knows that they can't be trusted around small children either.
This guy has no right to induce a threat or risk into the neighborhood. | | Stupid should hurt!

I suppose, but you could say the same for any breed for that matter. I was attacked twice as a small girl by dogs who were supposedly friendly. One time the dog just wasn't used to small children, and the other time I was walking my own dog and was attacked because the dog apparently had puppies and was protective. I just think they are singled out because they are more physically intimidating. And unfortunately there are people out there who breed the dogs to be aggressive. I have heard of many attacks here in copa and none of them have been pitts.

Alert | I love how so many people chime in with "NOT MY DOG" "MY DOG WOULDN'T HURT A FLY" "MY DOG HAS BEEN TRAINED RIGHT" "MY DOG LOVES CHILDREN".
