Alert | | My dog Frank has started an interesting new habit and I don't really like it but don't know how to stop it. He's always been really good about going potty in the grass/dirt at the house. Lately he's been doing both on the patio. I have to say that the house that I live in now has a HUGE bricked in patio. I don't know if he's just too lazy to go out to the grass/dirt or if he doesn't like the feel on his feet. This has never been a problem before and he's not sick because he was just at the vet and got the ok. I don't want to yell at him for going potty because I'm afraid that would mess things up even more. It's not the end of the world, all I do is sweep up the poo and spray the bricks off. It just seems weird. What should I do? | | Formerly known as Sissie99

Alert | | I notice that some of my customers dogs do that in the summer months. I really believe it's just too hot for them to venture far from the door.

Alert | | Is your patio covered? If so, then your pup is most likely keeping his feet cool. You can try spraying an area of the dirt/grass with a hose, but I think all that will do is cause him to dig.

Alert | Just curious...have you considered trying something basic??? My first steps would be to go out with the dog to the bathroom whenever you can..and wal all the way out to the dirt/grass...if he still goes on the patio and not grass beging taking him out on leash to the grass/dirt and once there letting him off...see what works the best ..it's all about trial and error as each dog, owner, and situation are different. You were right about one thing though...yelling at him would of done no good. Nice work stopping thhat one before you started. =)
Good luck! Chances are the cause is the heat on the feet...and hosing things down may help if you dont mind muddy tile.carpet whn he comes back in...then give it a try as well. =)
