OK he's settled in his dog run, and we now got a complaint that he was barking during the day. Let him out and he ate a tiki torch! We are buying a bark collar today, as we are running out of ideas. HELP!

Does he have access to the pool to get cool?
He probably wants in. Did you do the doggie door thing to the laundry room so he can get in & get cool during the day? Since he's used to being able to swim when he's hot he's probably pretty unhappy in the run. It's be better to keep him kenneled inside than outside in the heat right now. He's still just a teenager, so he's bound to get into trouble if not supervised regularly. He WILL calm down & stop eating tiki torches, but that will take time & lots of attention / regular exercise & continued training on that homework from the trainer.

Last shock collar I saw used (my dad used on his lab) the dog LIKED it and would bark to get shocked!!

Since your neighbors are home during the day (they heard him barking, right?) do you trust them to go over and play with him some, or let him into the pool?

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

I agree with Kimberly on the crate thing. Maybe leave him in that all day then get a kid to come over early evenings to run him around a little to tire him out. I've got 4 you can borrow...LOL! XOXO to my little Dallas, little cutie is just puppy BAD!!!

Thank Kim and all... In his dog rin he has a mister so he can be cool. The barking is nuts! We put him in his crate(indoors) let him out and BARK BARK BARK. Needless to say Paul is protecting him advising me its no worse than the little girls eating my shoes, however I am embarrassed to tears knowing that MY dog is a nuisance to the neighbor!

Be very carfull leaving your dog outside even with misters. Dogs do not sweat so they are unable to cool off as easy as us. Try 1-800-Barkbusters, its a trainer that comes to your house. We used them and loved them!! If you are going to do a bark collar try the spray ones first. They spray them with a smell that they hate. It worked for my one dog. I have seen some nasty burns from the shock colar so if you use that make sure to only put it on him for short periods of time and he should be indoors with it on as well becasue the misters may not be a good idea to have spraying on the collar. Dogs can be Kenneled for long periods (inside)as long as he get exercise afterwards.

My parents had a great reaction with their buzzing collar for the invisible fence.
Don't freak out over this, everyone. Lucy is fine. She's an 8 year old basset who is lazy, and loves to be outside. She broke the barrier of the fence twice, and once she figured out as long as she stayed within the barrier - she never crossed the line again.
Basically what I am trying to say is that now the collar isn't even on - they simply put the collar on her (the device doesn't even have batteries in it anymore,) and Lucy refuses to go near the edge of boundaries.
It kinda works like Pavlov's dogs - no pun intended!

Dallas is a puppy, right?

A tired puppy is a good puppy.. Maybe he needs more exercise and interaction from his parents and family..

Our puppy is now 16 months old and just starting to calm down.. Puppies are hard work! That's why they're so cute.. it's so you don't kill them!

Tens of THOUSANDS of pure-bred dogs are killed in shelters in the Us EVERY YEAR!

But Indy's such a love! He's a good doggie. All the time, right? <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/tongue.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Tongue' align='absmiddle'>

Jilly's right - everything I have heard about puppies - a tired puppy is a GOOD puppy.

Does he have toys outside to keep him occupied? Like a Kong, or bones?

Dallas ( A 60 lb puppy) has lots of toys, chew and regular, stuffed animals, a couch and mist system of his own and now his very own bark collar. Which before everyone tells me is bad, we are only using to train him not to bark and IT'S Working! He only has it on for short periods of time and he is learnign that if he barks it goes on, so we are finally making head way! Thanks all for your suggestions!

Dallas is so cute. I know it's trying on your nerves but everything you are doing is great and he will eventually grow into a wonderful adult dog, it's just the teenage years right now. Keep up the good work.
