Alert | Hello Animal lovers,
Our two older cats (7 year old sisters) are in need of a loving, nurturing home. Ironically enough, they don't look alike: one is an orange long-haired cat,(very beautiful) and the other is a dark grey short-hair. (very affectionate) Both cats have been indoors and are neutered, and declawed. (front paws.) The love people, purr constantly and would make very good companions to anyone interested.
Unfortunately, over these 7 years my wife's allergies to cats have significantly worsened, despite a daily regimen of anti-allergen meds. Sadly, its getting to the point of being intolerable.
We're doing the responsible thing by trying to find a home, rather than burden a shelter. So if anyone can help, please respond. We'd like to keep them together if possible.
Thanks,
Trainfan | | | |

Alert | Hi MommaToni,
Thanks for your interest. To answer your question openly and honestly, Pumpkin and Shadow (the orange long hair and gray cat respectively) are rather timid around dogs and kids. I think its because they are absolutely not aggressive whatsoever. Having raised them since they were kittens, (both abandoned) we've noticed that they are most affectionate in a quite, peaceful setting. They love to lie on your lap in the evening when you watch TV. They also love to jump on your bed and snuggle at night. Shadow especially- she's not as pretty as pumpkin, but she's got a wonderful, gentle personality.
As far as the shedding, they do shed- especially Pumpkin with her long hair and the warmer temps. Its not anything a good vacume can't handle, but yes, they shed.
Pumpkin has had a sensitive belly lately. The vet ran all the possible tests and she has been given a clean bill of health. We think its her emotions as my wife and I are travelling a lot more than we used to. Between travelling and my wife's allergies, we think our "babies" would be better served in a more attentive home. Perhaps that will be you!
So, our cats (like people) are rather sensitive in their environments. Its amazing how emotional animals can be.
Well, I'm hopeful that perhaps you can help us. I will post some pictures tomorrow. You'll see how Pumpkin is quit the 'princess.' If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to email me at maricopatrains@yahoo.com.
Thanks again. Pete | | | |

Alert | You can email pics to me at kimberly@houndathome.com and I will post them if you'd like.
Female cats can get impregnated by more than one "donor" hence same-litter kittens that are completely different at birth. I've seen litter mates be siamese and another be a domestic long hair - bizarre.
It's wierd that your wife's allergies have gotten worse. Typically you will get used to your own pets dandur over the years. Typically takes 6 mos - 1 year. I suffer every time we adopt another cat but I know it will get better and it always does. She must have a horrible allergy situation.

Alert | I just sent you some pictures. Great website BTW!!
As far as the allergies, its wierd. My wife takes a daily regimen of Zirteck, that has worked very well since we've had our kitties.
Then about 6 months ago, she started having these sneezing fits. Constant. Then she wakes up in the morning with one or both eyes swollen almost shut. And no, despite what the audience thinks, I'm NOT ruffing up my wife in the middle of the night. The doc says its the cat dander.

Alert | Oh yes they are!!! Especially during footbal season!
That's weird that after 6years it's the cats. Are you sure she didn't start using something or expose herself to something within the last 6 months that she could be having a reaction to?

Alert | We asked ourselves that very question. We both went to an allergist to see exactly what things we are allergic to.
After pricking our backs we every substance known to man, I turned out to be allergic to grass, ragweed, and tree pollen, and my wife turned out to be allergic to cat dander.
Otherwise, we haven't done anything else unusual.
Shadow will sometimes jump on my wife's pillow at night and snuggle in while my wife is sound asleep. (We think Shadow likes my wife's shampoo scent) We suspect that this could be the causing the swollen eyes. But the wierd thing is Shadow has done this in the past, but never did my wife react the way she is reacting now.

Alert | I'll post a link to the pics here & will get them on the site this weekend w/ you as the contact person. Thanks for the kudos on the site. I can't take any credit though. My husband is the designer.
My personal & professional opinion (although it matters little) is for your wife to change shampoo's, keep the cats out of the bedroom & consider having them professionally groomed & shaved regularly. It will be tough to re-home adult cats & it will be tough on the cats being rehomed.
