Alert | Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have removed 12 pit bulls from the Cave Creek home of rapper turned actor DMX because of what they call inhumane conditions.
They have also found 3 pit bulls, one apparently burned, buried in his backyard, according to Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Detectives apparently received a tip about the situation more than a week ago.
They then visited the home and called one of the rapper's lawyers, telling him that conditions for the animals at the property needed to be improved or deputies would take action.
The dogs were not being fed or watered.
Authorities returned to the home Friday and removed the dogs, seen in the pictures to the left.
Officials say Earl Simmons (DMX's real name) was not at home when the raid occurred.
Sources say deputies also found a large cache of weapons.
Simmons' lawyer, Murray Richman, says Simmons hasn't been in Arizona for at least two months and was "extremely disturbed" to hear the animals weren't being cared for properly.
The 12 pit bulls are in the custody of MCSO.
It's unknown if there could be any connection to the Michael Vick dog fighting ring in the news right now.
DMX has been in trouble with the law before.
In 2002, he pleaded guilty in New Jersey to animal cruelty for neglecting 13 pit bulls.
As part of his sentence, he did a public service announcement against animal abuse.
During his 1999 Hard Knock Life tour, he was arrested in Denver on a warrant for charges he stabbed and shot his mother.
He was later cleared.

DMX has had an ongoing image of how he's still "thuggin' it" as well as MOST of the black rappers. It's not a stereotype, it's a fact. Name 5 mainstream black rappers who don't advertise/exploit their roots to "thug life"... and still have a career.
Everywhere I turn, it's nothing but brotha's showing off how "hard" they can be. Complete with fighting Pits, dancing "ho's", gratuitous drug use and showing off how they have done "hard time".
