Alert | Dr. Hudman at Kennel Care is WONDERFUL! He really cares about his patients and treats them like he would treat his own. Kuma and both of my cats (who can be picky about what vet they'll allow to poke at them) absolutely LOVE him. He also really cares about the humans and explains things well and tells you what all of your options are and which of those options he'd recommend. He's also really thorough when he's checking for what's going on with pets and there isn't a really long wait for appointments, especially if you're worried about something - even if it may not be an emergency.
The follow up to check in on how things are going when there are issues going on is also great.
Their number is 480-940-0066. He's in Chandler, but it's worth the drive!

Alert | I have experience w/ both and I truly like both offices.
I don't know Dr. Shelle at Maricopa Animal Hosp. well but I do know her partner Dr. Anderson and I like the care she provides. I don't know Dr. Klocow at Maricopa Wells very well, but I do know Dr. Villalba at Maricopa Wells Vet. Hosp. quite well and like her as a person and as a vet. Both groups know and respect each other and have made referrals back and forth since MAH was taken over by Drs. Anderson & Shelle. My suggestion is to call both vets. Get a feel for their office practices via phone & even make a trip to the office. They're both within 1/2 mile of each other. I would not hesitate to take any of my pets or rescue dogs to either office in an emergency.

Alert | | I don't know the other vet, but I double the plug to Dr. V. at Maricopa Wells! Of course, I'm biased, since she's the one that saved my baby Bree. But she's the greatest, IMO. I haven't had a better vet for my various and sundry pets since I moved here (well, to AZ) from Pa - 10 years ago. | | <---Look, Ma! I sit, I stay, I match the carpet!

Alert | | Well, You decide...back in February, I took my beautifull Karma..she's the rottie mix on the left, who by the way, was a stray puppy we found and decided to keep.to Dr Anderson at MAH to be spayed. Well, the spaying went very well and Dr Anderson was very nice. About a week later, we noticed her fur on her back was falling out. By Saturday morning her skin on her back was falling off and looked infected. We had to take her to Gilbert Emergency and she had to spend the night, it didn't look good. Karma, had severe burns on her back about 8 inches long by 6 inches wide. The ER vet said this was very common when the vets use a heating pad and the dog is under anesthia for a long time. Most places now use hot water bottles. They had to debride her wounds (remove all of the skin from the area), and clean it up, she had to be on IV antiabotics and under anesthia. She came home the next day bandaged from shoulders to tail. We had to have her bandages changed every day for the next 6 weeks!!! We had to do a 'wet-to-dry' bandage wrap every day. We took her back to see Dr Anderson that Monday, and she seemed very concerned, but wouldn't admit fault. She said she would work with us on the price of the follow up visits and would not charge for the office visit, just for the bandage changes. Well that visit was $95.00!!! Then every day for the next week, then every other day for the following week. Each time I was charged $95.00!! Now don't get me wrong, I complained every time about the charges, and was told that the charges were already reduced. I contacted the Board for Vets..forgot the real name and they said to document everything, and take pictures. I did and am planning to start a suit against them. Eventually we stopped going back and found a fantastic vet at Banfield in the Petsmart on 54th in Chandler. She only charged us $25.00 for a bandage change and she spen an hour or more every time with us. She taught us how to do the bandage change at home, and we only had to go back once a week. We love her...Now...you decide. | | Mobile Custom Auto Repair "We Come To You!" 520-280-3775

He is truly the BEST! You described him perfectly! It really isn't a long drive. It is only 20 minutes and well worth it!
Close isn't always better. I learned that the hard way years ago living in Ahwatukee. Just very thankful we found Dr. Hudman!

Alert | | Karma is doing well now. Thanks. She has a 4x6 inch scar that will never get fur back, but at least her health is good. Kimberly, you came out to us when we first found her. You are so awesome!! You help so many people out with these stray dogs. What a great person you are!! Alert | I can tell you that I personally know of several FORMER clients, as well as, and probably more importantly, FORMER employees, who certainly would not share mommystaceys enthusiasm about Maricopa Wells Vet Hosp. And though I feel horrible about what Jerseygirl says that she has experienced at Maricopa Hospital (AKA the Shack), the things I have heard about them, pale in comparison to the controversy, underhandedness, and utterly unethical practices allegedly taking place at MWVH. I have certainly decided to take my business out of town, and I would highly recommend you do the same Lauren. | | I love you Chubbison !!

Alert | | Wow that is some strong opinions and I am sorry that you feel that way. I know that we some issues with some employees in the past and I feel that they are resolved now and we have a fantastic staff now!!! I do feel however that everyone should take there pets to whomever they feel good with. If you you dont mind the 30min drive into town then go there. But everyone needs to judge for them selfs because there are some people out there that have bad experiences everywhere they go(if you know what I mean) so it is hard to listen to them. I am sorry about your dog I hope she is alright and feeling better. If you need help with anything let me know!!

Alert | Lauren, you will find that both vet clinics out here do a very good job. I would use either in a pinch and recommend either to local residents. My experience has been that they are both a bit more pricey then many vets in the Phoenix area. I have also found that it can be a very long wait to get an appointment at Maricopa Wells. So my advice would be to just stop in to both practices, ask about prices for the basic and routine things you will be needing for your pets, also ask about a general and honest appointment wait time, and then see how you feel.
Obviously from this thread many people have personal issues or individual bad experiences, so I would certainly not judge or decide based on this thread. I would stop into each, ask some questions, see about how far out appointment times are. Again, you will find they are certainly higher priced then other vet offices, BUT once you figure in the gas and time you save by not having to go into town it may be worth it.
For some dogs and situations we have it is worth it to just take them in locally and save on gas and time and have the convenience. But if I am able to go up into the valley I will because I can find the same exact services for literally half of the price up there.
I have had dogs and cats in both clinics, and received very good care both places. I have always liked Dr.V at Maricopa Wells, she is a very gentle and very thorough and has a state of the art facility. I also like Dr. Anderson at Maricopa Animal Hospital as she herself is a "big dog person" and is very personable, I also find you can get an appointment in there a bit more timely then with Maricopa Wells. Our rescue has received lots of assistance from Dr.V and Maricopa Wells on certain routine care for our rescue animals, at Maricopa Animal Hospital we are not given any kind of discount or assistance. But on the other hand Dr.Anderson at Maricopa Animal Hospital is a previous dane adopter and has our "Riley" now as her new baby, so either way in some manner you are "supporting" rescue by visiting either clinic! But I do know that Maricopa Wells has assisted many rescue animals, not just ours, so that for me would be something I would want to consider when choosing who to take my business to.
Good luck, and have faith that you will receive good care at either clinic, both want to help animals, neither would purposefully steer you wrong, so if you are just looking for basic vet care visit each and see what you think. I wouldn’t say either is "better", they are just different...wait times, prices, services available, etc.
If you choose to drive to the valley for a vet, I can write a whole other book on that, we’ll wait on that one!

Alert | Lauren - I also think is depends on the breed of dog you have, and if there are any specific health issues. For example, I own greyhounds, and would rather take them to my vet in Phoenix, who is very experienced in the breed. I was taking Patton (my greyhound) to Maricopa Wells for a limp- concerned it was his back. I thought perhaps Maricopa Wells would do as good of a job as my vet in Phoenix. The problem was that it wasn't his back, it was corns on his foot, and Maricopa Wells simply did not have the experience needed to treat him properly. I wasted a lot of money on xrays, when the problem was really his toe - (not their fault- they were doing the best the could- it was my fault for not taking him to my normal vet.) I will continue driving into town for my dogs, simply b/c my regular vet specializes in my breed. (BTW - Patton ended up having surgery to remove the toe- it sounds traumatic, but its really not. He is a completely different dog 2 months later. Happy, healthy, and pain-free!) | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | I am disgusted by the treatment of my animals and myself at Maricopa Wells (the one by Bashas). Each and everyone of the staff and Dr there were rude, disrespectful and uncaring on every occasion that I went there. They were way more intersted in my money than the wellbeing of my pets. I have gone to the other one (the shack one near Penascos). and they were okay. much better than MW, but not the best vet i've been to. Honestly, if you have a vet now, and like them, I'd keep them. | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you
