Alert | Christie and I are spending this afternoon trying to clean up a dane with the WORST tick infestation ever!
If anyone can help, PLEASE call me at 480-226-6299 and I will tell you how to get here. We have alcohol, tweezers, gloves......we have dipped her and sprayed her, now we are pulling off the piles of ticks, tiny seed ticks to huge sheep ticks...PILES of them all over! Most are dead, some are half dead, they need to be taken care of so she can be saved and they dont spread!!
PLEASE, if you ever wanted to help, now would be a good time, this will save this dog, but is a laborous and long process. I am very afraid it will get dark before we can even finish.
480-226-6299 and I will tell you how to get to us. Dont dress nicely, dont be afraid to get dirty, and know we will be so thankful, and the dog will love you forever!! | | Shana Kerr Arizona Animal Assistance www.azanimalassistance.com Bulldog Rescue of Arizona www.bulldogrescueofarizona.com

Alert | | Use the frontline spray, the ticks will just crawl off the dog. That stuff is amazing. Best of luck.

Alert | Thanks to everyone for caring!
Christie, Peggy and Michelle all were a HUGE help. We worked until it got dark and still didnt get them all. I would say at this point she is probably 80% better then she was when she got here. She has been treated with adams wash and soak, adams spray and front line topical. After MUCH work I finally found a vet with a big enough tub to actually dip her, and a groomer on staff to do it, and have an appointment for Friday. If the treatments dont kill off all of the rest they will dip her, they will do a tick fever/lime test regardless at our regular vet. For now she is quarantined off from everyone else. If anyone wants to come sit and visit with her and pull more ticks, there are still more there today! Call me at 480-226-6299. Alert | Is this a stray? How did the Ticks get on her?
| | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Joined old forum March 2006 Post count: 3068 + these | |

Alert | She came from an eviction situation, and actually had an owner who looked at her and her other three dogs in that condition EVERY DAY and didint see anything wrong with it! She sold her other dogs because they were "younger and prettier" but couldnt find a "buyer" for this dog. Then they got evicted, according to her. Also, according to her, she always gave the dogs front line on the 8th of every month, she missed it this month so she has a "few ticks and things". This poor dog was bred into the ground, she has mammry tumors and saggy boobies, and a broken spirit, and is afraid to come indoor, I doubt she was ever inside. Yes, there was an owner involved who knew her dog had "a few ticks and things", but didnt seem embarrassed or upset by the dog's conditrion at all. | | Shana Kerr Arizona Animal Assistance www.azanimalassistance.com Bulldog Rescue of Arizona www.bulldogrescueofarizona.com

Alert | Shana, Michelle, Christie & Peggy - Thanks to you all for making that sweet Dane feel so much better!
I'm going to get some of that Frontline Spray to keep on hand. We use the topical drops on our dogs monthly.

Alert | I don't know what we are doing right, but it must be something. The boneheads have never had a tick or fleas. We do put the little smelly tubes of stuff on the back of their neck from time to time, but that's about it. They play outdoors, roll in the dirt, dig holes after ground squirrels, and seem to be doing fine. I don't know how a dog could get that infested unless they just had swarms of ticks on the property and the dog was picking them up.
I wish this poor gal the best! I would say something bad about the former owners, but I really thing they were too stupid to realize something was wrong. Makes me wonder what might be crawling around on them. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | We had an infestation about six years back. I tried everything. The poor dogs were dipped weekly to try and get rid of them. The best thing I found - Sevin Dust works wonders for killing the little bloodsuckers. I must have used a 100 pounds of that stuff covering the yard. The ticks even got in the carpeting in the house - awful. The stuff the exterminator sprayed didn't faze them. I didn't care if it killed us - I was going to kill the ticks. I sprinkled Sevin dust on the carpeting the way you do the room deodorizer powder and let it sit for a few days then vacuumed it. Dead ticks galore!!! And to this day - the dogs, house and yard have not had a tick. YEAH!

Alert | | AC&C told me they see the most tick infested dogs from farms that store a lot of hay.

Alert | Oh, you would have to say that about the hay. I'm switching the farm animals over to grain. We do keep a few bails of hay around, no more than three or four, and I keep several bails of straw around that I use for litter in the pens.
The first time I see ticks in the carpet, the house goes on the market and the animals will be part of the sale. | | Stupid should hurt!

Alert | | DD, Don't panic, I think the operative word in PSW's post was a "lot". Actually none of us are immune. I live in RED and was totaly shocked last year when I found ticks on my in house kept dogs. My yard and house were quickly infested and I freaked out. I am still clueless as to how they got in my yard. They were the itsy bitsy little seed ticks. I had my house bombed while the dogs were being dipped and Frontlined. The exterminator came three weeks in a row for the yard and did a second bombing of the house. I had nightmares about the little vampires. But they finally disappeared and (knock on wood) I haven't seen another one since. Many years ago I had a similar experience with fleas...NOT something I would wish on anyone.
