Hello everyone,

I was lunging my horse yesterday and a little baby chick was suddenly at her feet. I know nothing about them so I cant tell age or anything. I do not have the time or the money , or energy to look into taking care of a chick. Anyone out there that raises them that wants it I will give it to them. I just cant throw it back outside. She has been eating bread for about 24 hours now...

If you can’t find a home for it take it to the feed store they will have someone there that will want it for sure (tell them they can’t sell it just to give it away I am sure it will just take a few customers). I just got rid of all the birds (Chicken, Chucker, Pheasant) so I cant take it... sorry.

If Chitwoods won't take it, we will take it and put it with ours.

What better home than living at the DesertDweller Zoo? That is one lucky chick! I am sure by the end of the day, we will have pics of the new addition to his family.

Just waiting.........

This is the chick. I doubt that it's a chicken based upon it's size. This little guy is at least three days old, and it seems kind of small for a chicken. I am thinking quail, maybe? Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a very young Gambel quail. Are you going to keep it or do you need a wildlife rehabilitator? Liberty Wildlife has a woman in Arizona City. I don't her number but the main number is 480-998-5550

I wasn't far off, then. We have hundreds of them on the property, so it should be right at home when it's old enough to socialize. I have him in his own cage with some starter mash and water. I will give the wildlife people a call and see if they have any advice.

We tried our best, but sadly the little guy didn't make it. I think he was just too young to be on his own.
