Alert | I thought I would add to the positive stories to the furry friends Forum...
How many of you call your pets when you are out of town and talk to them through your answering machine?
We are guilty of this, and last month PSW, caught my honey leaving a message. She returned the call and we all laughed. Needless to say it was embarrasing my him, and I could not stop laughing.
So who else is guilty of this pet lovers offense? and what do you tell you furkids?
It still brings a smile to my face when I think of his embarrasment.

Alert | I ALWAYS call and talk to my pups while I am out of town. Sometimes they run away from the phone, but most of the time they just lick it! I'm lucky enough to have my mom close so that she cares for the doggies while I am gone, but it's nice to talk to them too. My husband thinks I'm crazy... especially when I cry because I have to leave them!

Alert | Answering machine? Do those still exist? I've had only voicemail for years.
I did used to call and leave messages for my cat way back when I was in college. Obviously cat's aren't allowed in dorms so he lived with a friend of mine while I was in school. I'd call and leave messages and he'd play them back later (my friend was wondering why messages from me never showed up as new messages until she walked in and caught him hitting the play button to listen to my message again).

Alert | Oh, nononoono! We cannot do that with the boys! When I used to travel, I would be away for a week at a time. When I first left Sherman, the one night when I called DH, I made him put the phone on speaker, so I could talk to Sherman. What a mistake! Sherman lost his mind- barking and play bowing at the phone - mommy! Unfortunately, he was inconsolable for the rest of the night - pacing the house, and looking for me. Poor guy. Never do that again. Hee hee. | | Formerly known as 'greytxracers' "My greyhound is smarter than your honor student"

Alert | That was one of the most hilarious experiences I've had since starting this career 5 years ago! Absolutely hilarious! If I could have gotten to the phone in time, I surely would have meowed a few times into it!
I think more people do it than are going to admit here! I've just never actually caught anyone in the act until M&M's husband was babytalking to the kitties and I overheard!

Alert | Most certainly. I think I drive PSW crazy. I call her to check in on them after every visit since I can't be home to read the wonderful update notes at the end of the day. I always talk to my babies at night on speaker phone. I love hearing those licks and kisses on the phone. I can just imagine the little head tilt that goes with it.
When we had an answering machine I was guilty of leaving several messages a day. Crazy mommy! | | The best present ever! A day at the Phoenix Zoo as a Zookeeper. Feeding the giraffs was one of the most exciting parts of the day.

Alert | I think I will show my honey this thread, it will make him feel better. PSW the call back had him freaked out enough, a meow response would have.... either way it was great.
When one of us is out of town we put the phone to the kitties ears and they just love it.

Alert | Ok I confess. I have only done this once. My husband and I kenneled our dogs at a facility were you could call and request to speak to your pet. I called 4 times to talk to them and 3 other times just to get a report on them. They were only at the kennel for 6 days!
The lady told me that when I called and they put me on speaker both dogs just tilted there heads confused...

Alert | I got a catalog in the mail yesterday from In The Company of Dogs and they have the answer for you guys, it's called a "chatterbowl"
Now you can leave a message to keep your pet company while you're away from home. Record a 10-second message and every time your dog takes a drink your reassuring voice can be heard. A photo-electric cell senses your pet near the bowl. Great for pets with separation anxiety that could benefit from taped recordings of their owner's voice. High-impact polycarbonate. Handwash.Uses 4 AAA batteries (not included). Holds 6 cups.
LOL no more long distance phone calls!! Web site is www.inthecompanyofdogs.com | | The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

Alert | | OMG! Sounds totally fun. A couple of years ago at Holiday time, I gave all of my dog customers a "talk to me ball" - same concept. You put a treat in the middle & when the dog rolls the ball around w/ their nose to get at the treat, it plays a recorded message from the owner. It was a little freaky when I made subsequent visits & would hear the owners voice while I was there!
