 Alert | I am dismayed to say that Dog Fighting is alive & well right here in Maricopa. I was in a very tense & uncomfortable situation 2 nights ago when I was called to a residents home in RED. He came home to find a female Pit Bull in his backyard. She was there w/ a big bucket of water, so she didn't just crawl in on her own. He lives in property w/ a rental sign in front & the yard is a bit unkempt. It is my belief that the owner of this dog put her there to hide her from the police or others who may turn her into AC&C because he believed that house to be vacant. This dog was in horrible shape - completely malnourished, starving, & she had old & new bloody wounds clearly from her being fought. It was an incredibly sad sight for me. Low and Behold, as I'm taking pics of her & chatting w/ the home owner, the dog owner pops his head over the fence - along w/ 2 of his buddies - only to asky why I was taking pics of his pooch. He claims she had gone missing 2 days ago & must have jumped the fence into his neighbors yard....yeah right - along w/ her water bucket!!!!!!! He claims she must look skinny from not eating for 2 days & that she must have gotten into a fight w/ a coyote or other dog as she was stray. BULL CRAP! A dogs ribs & hip bones don't begin to show because they've missed 2 or 3 meals. Anyway, I mustered up all the courage I could to tell him to his face that I was calling the police & AC&C. I left quickly because I most certainly felt threatened. The gentleman owning the property where the dog was found was supportive of me & let me "run away." I met w/ AC&C and PCSO became involved less than 1 hour later. The dog & owner were gone - suprise suprise but the investigation is on going.
Dog figthting is a cruel, cruel act. It is unfathomable to me that people actually watch the fights much less put the dog through the "training" required to actually compete in the bloody brawls. This sweet girl was absolutely sweet to me and so happy when I gave her a bowl of food. Now I certainly wouldn't have brought her into my home w/ my dogs or child, but that's only because of her fighting history.
I mostly don't really believe in PETA's position on many things, or how they go about getting their point across, but I do agree w/ their stance on this. If you could sign the online Statement Against Dog Fighting in this link, I and the furry fighters thank you!

I am going to start asking people to support you and to have you deemed a Social Pet Worker(the kind that pays less taxes and gets funding).
You shouldn't have to pay a penny to advertise on any site and/or should be getting a tax break from the city or some kind of Aid.
If I was one of those people on the city council, I would have you as my own special project. I would back you up 100% rather than try and work 100% with big business.
You do sooo much and get so little in return.

I only devote the time that I can and I have an unlimited amount of support from my husband, so that makes it all much easier to do.
I can't help everyone all the time and I do frequently say no to request to take in animals, so it's not like I can be the PSW 24/7. Sometimes I do have to work to pay the bills!
No need to campaign for me, I get plenty of wonderful feedback from other forum members and in the puppy licks and nudges from the dogs that come into our home. | | | |

My guess is that the punks who owned this dog are not only into dog fighting, you will also find some gang and drug activity as well. The sheriff knows this and, hopefully, will be able to gather them up. | |

Alert | Oh, Kimberly, first, I am so glad you are safe. Second- this is TERRIBLE. I cannot fathom it - I think of my own sweet boys, and cannot imagine the pain some animals are put through.
Second, what else can we do as a community? I mean, we can sign petitions all we want, but what will it do for our little town? I honestly wouldn't know where to start, but I am not as well versed in the community as others.
What else can we do to fight this? | |

Do your part

Alert | Kim....If I may assist in any way let me know. Lets just say with a baby on the way I'm glad I was not in your shoes that day, for I would be dealing with assulat and battery charges as I would of been over that fence in a matter of seconds....Having had to deal with all the pitt fighting dogs when doing animal search and rescue right after Katrina in New Orleans....I have an even bigger soft spot for such dogs...like the pitt bulls. ((So much so I brought one back with me that I rescued from a junkyard "named him Leroy Brown")) Anyway...I have professional experience in dealing with dog fighting rings as well as identifying scars and injuries specific to dog fighting...(Unfortunate to say) and if any professional opinion is required on top of JJ and local vets...You know my # call anytime. I've been contracted in the past by the United States Humane Society to lead an aggressive canine rescue team.
I do know the probable fate of the dog you found.=( So if it's not too late...let me know and I would like to offer my time to spend quality time with the dog prior to is being PTS is that is what it comes down to...it should not go without ...((damn tears....))you know what I mean...thanks...
