Alert | I get to go to one of the local greyhound farms with JillyBean to pick up retired greyhounds who are ready for adoption. Last Saturday we met little Chin Chin.
She was a 6 week old greyhound who was having trouble walking. She couldn't gain control of her rear legs, and kept falling over. JB immediately went into action, and knew someone who would adopt her, so she would not be put down, since she would most likely never race. I fell in love with this little girl, and cried for her. I wish I could have taken her that night, but we are not equipped to take care of a puppy, much less a puppy with a medical problem. I felt so bad for her, I just wanted to cuddle her and love her. I was petrified something would happen to her.
On Tuesday, JB picked up this sweet little girl, and kept her overnight, until she could drop her off with her new mommy the next day. I had the pleasure of meeting with JB Tuesday night, and playing with them for over an hour. This little girl had gusto, she romped, and tried to run. When she toppled over, she got right back up. She played with toys, licked our faces, and chewed on our fingers. She was so calm, and held still while we pulled a tick off her, and trimmed her nails. She only squirmed a little when we cleaned her ears- but who wouldn't?? She was a gentle soul. As I cried and hugged her goodbye, I told this little one I loved her.
Unfortunately today, I got the news from JB that little Chin Chin was put to sleep this afternoon. After a complete examination from the vet, it was determined that several disks in her spine were compressed, and beginning to calcify. Therefore, she had no feeling in her legs, and no control over her bladder or bowels. She would have been forced to wear diapers for the rest of her life, and use a cart, which is not fair to her. Her momma made the best decision for her out of love and dignity. I am devastated for her and her momma. Chin Chin was a sweet, brave little girl. When we first met her, she was determined to chew on our fingers through the fencing like her brothers and sisters. She kept trying to walk to us, but would either fall over, or get jumped on by one of her litter mates. But, she was a determined little bugger. She got right back up, and tried again.
She was a cutie - greyhound puppies are adorable - she was white with 3 brindle patches. So cute and sweet. I will never forget the experience I had with her. I only knew her several days, but I fell in love with her. I am thankful to have had the time I did with her, and am thankful she knew the comforts of a soft fleece bed, and the touch of our hugs and kisses. I am glad she knew a little of life outside of the kennel. I am thankful to JillyBean for giving her that, and thankful to JillyBean for giving me the time I had with this sweet pup. Little Chin Chin is now waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, pain free, ready to romp and play again, as happy as can be.
Godspeed, sweet little one.

Alert | | Oh my Goodness! Someone please pass the box of tissues! How sad is that story. I guess you placed me in reality check over my dilema with my little Chen Chen!! God places special little packages at our feet for a good reason. He placed Chin Chin at their feet for one day of complete love and attention and someone who was willing to look past any handicap the little puppy had unknowing just how critical the condition was. I feel the same about God placing my little Chen Chen at my feet. I have decided to keep her inspite of her bad heart, hyper thyroid, gingivitis, and being completely deaf! She too will some day reach the Rainbow Bridge knowing that when someone threw her out on a busy street corner she fell to my feet for a reason, that being she would be loved and taken care of until she breathes her last breath! Thank you for sharing your story. | | Live every day as if it were your last and smile!

Alert | | Do keyboard work when they are wet? I just got my eyed dry from the dog fighting post...now this....especially with the problem being calcium build up in the disk. (Ask Kimberyl...happened overnight to my 100 lb rotti) 7400.00 later shes a determined gimpy rotti...I was just jumping on here to possibly assist with any basic trianing q's not clear out my tear ducts...o.k. several minutes later and now having to get a wet and dry vac for the keyboard...why did I go back up to the pic again...time to go hug my ugly mutt...

Alert | | lmreynol- She broke my heart, but reminded me how much my knucklehead greyhounds (hee hee) to me. I cried for that little girl, and my DH told me if any happens to Sherman or Patton (or the cats for that matter,) he's leaving the country.
