mostly just a lurker

But unfortunately feel compelled to pass on some information regarding Maricopa Wells Vet clinic. I struggled with whether or not to post this or mention the business's name but I'm doing so because I deeply believe others need to know about it so that at the very least, they are informed.

I've probably been to this clinc around 20 times over the past couple of years for many  reasons ranging from simple blood work to more serious conditions. I've also spent several thousands of dollars during my trips there so I feel like I have a pretty good handle on how they operate and treat their customers.

To say I've been unimpressed would be a gross understatement. Every single time (without exception) when I've had blood work done on one of my animals or any other tests that needed to be followed up on and requiring them to "call me in a few days to give me the results" it has not happened. In fact, there were times when they didn't even have a record of me coming in for the visit! There were also times when I had come in for a scheduled visit that they didn't have any of my information in the computer (ie, my cat or dog's last weight information or sometimes not having a record of the animal at all). I always just brushed it off as them being so busy. The two vets there on staff seem so preoccupied and busy with other things that often I felt I had to initiate the  troubleshooting proccess (ie, suggest skin cultures to be run or blood work to be run).  Several months ago I had blood work done on one of my animals and when I called in for the results they didn't have record of the blood test being done until I got upset and they had to "dig deeper" to find it. This last failed diagnosis was the last straw for me ( i won't go into the details) but needless to say I will not be coming back. I hope that everyone else has had much better experiences than I have because I would hate to think anyone else would go through what I have with this Vet. They seem completely unorganized and IMO not very thorough, especially when the issue goes beyond being a simple diagnosis. In closing, please take this info at face value. I'm sure many people have had excellent experiences with this VET. This has been my experience and my intent isn't to be mean or negative about them (because they are very nice) but just felt complelled to share some of my experiences.

Wow, I work at Maricopa Wells and We are deeply sorry you feel this way. I am sure that the vets there would be very sadened by this post. I am not aware of these problems. I have worked there since it has opened. I have worked in other practices and no place is perfect however I have never worked for a place like this! I have had issues with my own pet, (very serious) and there is no other doctor that I would want working on her. I personally feel very bad about your experiences and will bring it to the attention of the doctors. Again we are sorry for any inconvences that we may have caused. I know that I am not aware of your case however you have helped us by posting because now we are aware of your issue and can address it. I understand that you will not come back to our clinic and that is ok, we want you to be comfterable whereever you go. Just please let us know if you have any other problems or concerns!

Mommystacey - thank you for being so responsive to the above posters concern, that's awesome that you can be proactive in situations like this rather than taking the criticism personally...I certainly hope the Dr's appreciate you!!! On the other hand, I have to agree with Mr.RandyWatson - I took my animal in just once, the Dr I saw did not even examine him, she told me there was nothing medically wrong with him and based on his behavior in her office felt he needed to be put on Reconcile (puppy prozac). I went elsewhere for a second opinion and it turned out he was indeed sick, was placed on 2 weeks of antibiotics and has been great ever since. I presume his behavior was due in part to being in pain and in part to being scared since he was at the vet's. I'm glad I got the second opinion from a vet who actually took the time to examine him and run a urinalysis otherwise had he gone untreated he may have gotten seriously ill and required much more extensive treatments. All of the office staff I encountered during that visit were very nice, I was just disappointed that the Dr was too busy to take the time find out what was really going on with my puppy.

Mommystacey,

I appreciate your response but have reservations about it's validity, nothing personal however. I have talked to every single person who works up there (i think) about my frustrations (other people i know have as well) and nothing ever changed. I even begged you guys to update our records several times over a year ago and that never got done. I'm not trying to personally attack you and i hope you know that, but your response doesn't carry much weight with me. I've had far too many issues with your place of business.  Believe me when I say that I have intentially left out some very distrurbing details about my experiences with your two fulltime Vets.

My dog also had lab work done and NO one ever called me back either! I had to call and then play phone tag with the peson responsible for getting the info. That was over a year ago and I have not gone back. I go into Chandler (PetSmart/Banfield) Is it an inconvenience's?...Yes bit I feel they can give my animals personal attention and to respond back to me in a timely manner.

Oh and I did say something about this incidence at the time it happened....BUT no one ever got back to me :0(

I am glad you posted this information. I sent the Dr. an email a couple of weeks ago regarding a question about a new puppy we purchased and I have been waiting for a response before I made an appointment for the puppy to come in just to get checked out and the Dr. still hasn't responded, now two weeks later. I am very pleased about this post, however I am sorry that you had to deal with all of the frustration. Any recommendations on a good vet in town?

Again we we (I) are very sorry for all your frustrations. I am going to be bringing all this up to the doctors there. Again we appreciate any feed back even if it is negative because we can learn from it and become better. I am sorry that we will not be seeing you guys and your pets anymore that I know will hurt the doctors however they will understand that if you are not conferrable then you should go where you feel best. Good luck with all your pets and we hope all is well.

I feel compelled to add my comment regarding this vet.  service. We moved here 2 years ago and I took my dog there for shots and general check-up. The DR. was so un friendly. She acted as though she couldn't wait to get out of the room.  Shame on her.

Just started going to the other vet in town next to Chitwoods, what a difference. The vets actually talk to the animals. How nice to see a vet get down on the floor with my pet and talk to him in such a warm and friendly way. ANd they follow up whenever any tests are done on your pet.

Kudos them.

Mommystacey, i think it would a good idea to print out this thread and show it to them. Obviously, there seems to be some negative trends going on over there for quite some time.

Randy,
I could not agree with you more. I am a former employee of this animal hospital, and i left there as a result of the incompotence and constant termoil that is always overshadowing it. I too often brought my pets there, and as an employee i felt so uncomfortable with the level of service and treatment of my pets that i just ended up taking them elsewhere. Its not a good statement about a clinic when even the employees wont bring their pets in for treatment.
Im sorry you have had such a hard time their, all i can say is it may be time for the residents of Maricopa to start taking the money for needed services out of town until this business learns their lesson and begins treating their patients and their owners with the respect they deserve.

I love you Chubbison !!

aardvark,

thanks for sharing this type of information. At least now I understand that others have been going through the same thing. This is pretty disturbing, obviously.

I have to say the same. Bedside manner was non existant. I brought my 2 girls in to get spayed and have first vacs. Cost $635.00. Absolutely outrageous price. I about died.

I have no other experience with this business other than to ask for a quote for the following:

1 x Spay
1 x Neuter
2 x Microchip
2 x Feline checkup

$515.00

I went to the mobile one - MASH - recommended by a prominent local business owner, who cannot be named as she is banned...and husband is running for council - price was $130 for everything.

I understand that permanent places of business have much higher overheads, but seriously, $400 difference approximately?

Which do you think I went with?

Mommystacey - I cannot believe you are not aware of these concerns, as if you sit in the waiting area before or after any appointment, you guys get lots of calls where I hear staff telling callers, we can't find the appointment in the sytem, or we can't locate the results of this or that test. I hear how your staff treat the callers - like the caller is wrong, and is calling the wrong office. I actually now use a vet's office out of town, since I figured, if this is the office is run, it is not very good. The vet I now use, knows my dogs, calls me personnally with test results, and is excellent in terms of customer service. You guys on the other hand, are not always friendly, do not like too many questions asked, and are down right rude at times.

So, my suggestion, you actually open up your eyes and ears and then you will see there are problems all of the time that can and should be resolved before an animal dies due to your office's lack of care.

Go to the Casa Grande Animal Hospital!  They are located just north of the Casa Grande/Maricopa Highway on Pinal Avenue. Just north of the new QT.

They have several Doctors, and you will be sure to find one that fits your personality.  This is my opinion, if you would like more info pm me.

I too went to this vet.  They told me my cat had allergies and sent us on our way.  I took him to Dr Schelle at Maricopa Animal Hospital by Chitwoods the next day (because he was not eating) and she toook awesome care of him.  Her staff is wonderful and caring.  Dr. Schelle spent several hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my cat.  When she couldn't, she sent us to a specialist in Gilbert.  She wasn't afraid to say she couldn't diagnose him, but take him here and they will be able to help you.  I would recommend Maricopa Animal Hospital to anyone.  They are the Best!!

I have posted before about my extreme displeasure with this vet office.

Never once was an appointment on time, I'm talking over 45 minutes past scheduled time. A dr who was in more of a hurry to get out of the room than to answer questions. Not being called with test results. Being lied to about the duration and extent of my dog's problem. Outrageous prices. Being rude to my children when I broght them with me. Front desk people who were the most rude people I've ever encountered in my life. At one visit, I could not afford to pay the price I was told for a medication for my pet. The front desk girl said "well, I guess you want your pet to die then since you won't give her the medication." Yeah, she said that.
At the last visit I had there, I told the dr flat out that I was extremely dissapointed in how my pet and i were treated there. She basically said that she couldn't make everyone happy and welcomed my attempt to find better service elsewhere.

HERE IS THE KICKER!

when my pets records were sent over to the vet (Dr Schelle by Chitwoods), I got a copy of them. one the notes from that last visit, the dr and her staff made notes ABOUT HOW I WAS THE PROBLEM. When I complained about the waiting past my appointment times, they wrote "OWNER COMPLAINED ABOUT WAITING FOR APPOINTMENT. SHE WAITED BECAUSE SHE ARRIVED 10 MINUTES BEFORE HER SCHEDULED TIME". So, arriving early is a bad thing? How was I to know that they'd keep me waiting an additional 45 minutes past my appointment time?
I won't post what else was "said" about me in the notes written by the dr, but I was absolutely appalled by them doing that. Very unprofessional and absurd.

In the few visits I've had with Dr Schelle and her partner, I have been so pleased. They have even cried with me when I had a difficult decision to make. They took the time to properly diagnose my pet, give me realistic prognosis, helped me decide what to do, gave me the option to accept or decline treatment. NOt just present an outrageous bill and not actually help. I just wish they had a better parking lot

I've had the same problems with this vet. On the recommendation of someone here, I took my puppies to the Gilbert Veterinary Hospital. Their doggie-side manner has been wonderful. They took time to diagnose my puppies allergies, work with us when my puppy had a llittle puppy tumor, didn't cancel my dental appointments three times in a row....etc. they were patient and helpful and caring, called with results, just as relieved as we were when good results came back, and the prices weren't outrageous. Basically just awesome.

Course, they're in Gilbert, and a bit of a pain to get to.

I too, have had some of these problems with Maricopa Wells, but wanted to chime in more with the other local vets. The Animal Hospital near Chitwoods has been very caring and thorough with of my fosters, as has the MASH unit and the visiting Vet at the Stagestop location.
As someone trying to make ends meet in Maricopa, I hope some of you try these local businesses before heading out of town.
