Alert | Ive seen so many scorpions in Arizona and Ive never heard of someone to get stung by one. I dont think there all that defensive. But I do know alot of cruel ways to kill them, and you can find them using a black light! But I think you really have to irritate them to get stung by one, so maybe you should educate the little ones on the dangers of the stingers. http://phoenix.about.com/cs/desert/a/scorpions01_3.htm | | Bye Bye Maricopa!

Alert | | Stings happen by accident too. I was stung as a child. I was just laying on the floor in my grandparent's home and rolled over on top of one. Ouch!!

Alert | Have been stung 6 times over my life. I stepped on one in the kitchen bare footed - that was the worst one. Burned all the way up to my shoulders. Some people have different reactions to them then others. I was told (and have tried this successfully) that when stung put antipersperant over the stung area. Helps to take the sting out. Also take benedryl right away and ice. If it's a child - I wouldn't risk it, just go to the ER as quickly as possible.
They are nasty little buggers. Diatenacious earth around the parimiter of your house and doorways along with just getting the house regulary sprayed keeps them away.

Alert | My friends daughter got stung out by the pool. Her foot swelled in a major way, she could walk. Her mom immediately gave her benedryl. It wasn't getting better so she took her to the er where they gave her more benedryl and then her parents where directed to basically keep her stoned on benedryl for the next 4 days.
Not everyone is allergic to scorpians just like not everyone is allergic to bees. It's just scary, and they have a major bad rep like you'll fall over dead instantly. The big ones (the moms and dad scorpians) are less poisoness, the baby ones apparently pack the punch.
Funny think is, I'm a native. I've only seen one in the wild in 33 years. However I guess I'm lucky because a couple of my neighbors have found them this year in their homes in the past few weeks. | | "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Suess

Alert | Keep this number handy as well:
Poison Control: 602-253-3334
And because pets can be stung as well, speak with your vet and learn what to do if that should happen.

Alert | My husband used to have a black scorpian (emperor scorpian) as a pet, gross I know. He always told me that the smaller types of scorpians do the most damage. The big black ones are pretty harmless unless you are allergic to bee's because they have the same sort of venom. My husband is allergic to bees and so he always kept an epipen in the house just in case. The only real life threatening scorpian in Arizona is the Bark scorpian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centruroides_exilicauda The rest can knock you off your feet for awhile but cant really do much else. A child is another story ofcourse. The person that said an ice pack is right, its the best thing to do. Rinse it thoroughly with warm water and squeeze out as much blood as you can, take ibupofen and put ice on it. You want to calm yourself or the child as much as possible. The faster your heart races the more blood that pumps, the faster the venom is going to go through your body.
Also FYI there hasnt been a recorded death from a scorpian sting in AZ in more than 40 years!

Alert | | I thought that the BUg Guy can't kill scorpions with spraying./ We have a guy come once a month too but when we use to live in our other house we asked what to do about them and they said spraying doesn't touch them. The only thing they could do was put down some sort of sand stuff. | | Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!

Alert | The scorpions typically eat the bugs. Just like any other animal, if there is no food, they will move on. Keeping the house regularly sprayed kills their food supply. Not perfect, and won't necessarily get rid of all of them.
Luckily, I haven't seen any. The only poisonous thing I have seen is a 4 ft Rattlesnake across the street and one house down. Talk about scared to death. I am a total wuss when it comes to poisonous stuff.

Alert | OMG!! I moved here from NC and I am used to black widows by the groves!! I am not however, used to scorpions. My kids first day of school and the house was total craziness this past Monday morning. I woke up took my shower and was dancing around in bare feet and all Got my 8 year old up for his bath before taking him to school and then off to work for me. Anyway........I got dressed and had put on socks and shoes and me and the kids were in my master bathroom when my daughter yelled oooooow! I looked down and said, "That is one ungly looking spider I have never seen before." I bent down to find that it was either a hairy or bark scorpion about the size of my thumb nail. I managed to keep calm as not to freak the kids out. As I looked at him he put his pinchers up at me and his tail curled! I told the kids to get back and I took my shoe off and beat the pajeepers out of it then flushed him! I am highly allergic to bees! I lost my epi pen in the move and despiretly need to get another. I itched all day at work just thinking about it! I had my other half stop at Lowes and buy bug spray for crickets and spiders to kill the food souce. Does anyone have any tips on how to rid them and feel safe in my own home again. I am so allergic and afraid of bees and I can only imagine getting stung from a scorpion! Especially a Bark Scorpion. I am so afraid and can't relax in my own home now someone please help me get past this by offering any info. I have probably read about them for hours! We are having someone to come spray and shoot the cemicals into the rods in the walls of the house. | | Live every day as if it were your last and smile! |

Alert | Yes, the bug guy cant come spray for them but when you get rid of the crickets and spiders then you get rid of the scorpians. Thats what our bug guy told us anyways. We had some weed bushes out back and he said to get rid of them and that will cut down on spiders and in return that will get rid of the scorpians. Scorpians are more scared of you than you are of them. So as long as you arent messing with them they are not going to attack. Also, most of the time when they do attack and they see you are such a large creature they will just pinch you. They dont like wasting their venom, especially on something so large that they know isnt going to be food.
I finally got my husband to give up his scorpian so now he has a trantula! The other day he fed it a baby mouse, it was the sickest thing I have ever seen. It went straight for it and sunk its fangs into the back of the mouse's neck, then for two days it sucked everything out of the mouse just leaving behind a carcass. Sorry, just thought I would share. I cant stand all these critters he gets. And he is mean he insists on keeping them in the office so when I am on the computer I swear I can feel them looking at me.
