I am nervous about the traffic on 347 being too dense when it is TIME!  I know I could call for an ambulance but how much will that cost??  Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone have any experience with getting to the hospital in a rush from Maricopa.  I work here so the possibliity of me going into labor closer to the hospital is slim to none.

I am going to have a baby anytime now also. Am I concerned? Sure, but I think it will be fine. I lived in Gilbert and drove into Phoenix with another pregnancy. There were traffic concerns in that case too. Unless you go into labor with the morning traffic AND there's an awful accident, it should be fine. My back up plans are 1. to call 911 if I've committed to the 347 and the traffic stops. An ambulance or police escort should accomodate nicely and 2. if the traffic is already backed up, Casa Grande. Not my first choice of hospital, but I'd rather be there then on the road.

Of all the pregnant women I've heard of or known, only one gave birth on the 347. And from what I understand, it was not because of the traffic.

Can anyone confirm if Demonica had the baby on the 347 because he came quickly or because of the traffic?

i had a 45 minute labor with my first child, not what anyone expected. all in all, giving birth in the back of an ambulance on the 347 wasn't so bad after all. i have a way better story to tell than most mommies. if you have insurance, an ambulance ride should be covered if it is necessary, mine was.

I hear that Demonica had her baby in an ambulance....and that it actually went pretty well (she is my hero). However, I have several friends that have had had babies who live here in the Copa, and have made it on time (and then some...that's usually the case) to the hospital. I have not had that experience here in Arizona, but I hear that you want to stay away from the CG hospital. Good luck to you....and don't worry, there's always SOMETHING crazy when you deliver....it just makes for a fun story to tell. Either way, you'll get where you need to be when YOU need to be there. Congratulations on your new baby. :-)

Just rollin' with my wagon.

CGRMC has had to bear the burden of it's predecessor for the 25 years it's been in existence. Homako Hospital had the nickname of Hope You Make It Hospital. CGRMC has been the recipient of several national rankings and accreditations. This is just what I found on the Dispatch's website and Google without really looking. You might want to take a drive to CG and check it out for yourself and not base your decision on ancient history.

See, that's the kind of crap you mom's should never have to worry about.
Will we have enough money/insurance coverage for an ambulance?

Traffic is my concern too. I am not due until June but I want to be prepared. I think as it gets closer I may just have to move into my parents house to be closer to the hospital. Either that or I told my husband he better call a helicopter out because I didn't want to get stuck in traffic.

I am 35 weeks so due in about 5 weeks and I am a little nervous but in my case I have always had a drive to the hospital, so I am not totally freaked out about it. With my two other kids I had about 40 min drives so this is about the same here. I also here STAY AWAY from Casa GRande Medical Center. If all else fails I will call 911...LOL

I probably should have mentioned that the reason I am so nervous about the drive is because I was diagnosed with Placenta Previa and if there is a problem I will need to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. More than likely I will be going to the closest hospital that can care for high risk pregnancies. My doctor has never mentioned the hospital, I will have to look into whether or not it is a possible choice.

Thanks for all your ideas!

I had my baby at home after the worlds fastest labor....We didn't expect that, but Joe has picked up a new trade of midwife haha. We have 4 kids and they keep coming faster and faster. We joke that we can't have anymore because we are afraid we will be at Target one day and you'll hear "clean up on isle 4". haha

Do you have a history of fast labors? Most people are in labor for at least a few hours. Would your doctor be willing to induce to be able to control the situation, or are you up to that idea?

Good luck!

Nope, won't have to worry about that, but we'd pay so much in taxes we'd have to worry about whether we could afford diapers

I was scared to death to deliver on the side of the road too! I had nearly every horrible scenario playing over in my head. all the who, what, where, when.
I think Demonica was a major exception to the norm. She should buy a lottery ticket

If you can't spot the loser, it might be you
