 Alert | | Does anyone have any information on dyslexia? I have a 9 year old that I believe has this. Upon my own conclusion, I started researching the condition and reading some books on it. Everything it describes is my 9 year old, and the struggles he is having in school. I would like to have him formally tested, and possibly tutored. I am just curious if anyone else is dealing with this, or has dealt with it, and any suggestions and information you might have that could be helpul. Thanks!! | | | |

Dyslexia is a very specific learning disability. Most schools will go with the category "Specific Learning Disability" because they are not able to label as Dyslexic.

Alert | | I don't know if this will help any. I have dyslexia myself, it is a genetic disorder. A few years ago I was having problems with my daughter and had the school test her. I didn't wait for there results to look for more info. I found out this... there are over 200 different forms of dyslexia... if the school tests and they show he/she having dyslexia then there are state programs that can help, however, you need a test first... if the schools results show different than you can take her/him for further tests outside of school.... but have the school do it first... this way there's no cost to you. I think the tests get pretty costly, it was a few years ago that I called anyone on this subject. | | | |

Alert | | luckie13 is right I also have dyslexia and depending on what type you have their are differnt way to deal with it. I don't have problems with reading but spelling is where it realy hits me. | | | |
