Alert | | well, today is my "estimated date of delivery" but i'm not seeing a baby in the immediate future. my cervix has been at 50% and 1cm for my past 3 OB visits, although i have been having contractions off and on for 2 weeks now. i'm ready to meet his kid! i am pretty sad today, mom flew in last friday, hoping to be here for the birth of her first grandbaby. she can only stay until saturday, she has a work commitment in boston next week that she cannot miss. it's hard for me. my sis had to back out of the trip totally after hurting her back last week, 5 hours on a plane just wasn't happening, so now i won't have either of them with me for the birth, it looks like. thank god for my joey and for my wonderful new friend (you know who you are) who so kindly volunteered to be my birth support chickie!

Alert | Joey will make his presence known when he is good and ready. Go for a walk. Go for several walks (with someone with you for safety). It will help! Gravity and all that.
You can go from barely dilated to crowning in minutes so don't worry. I know - easier said than done.

Alert | I know how frustrating this is! Been there! Nick will come when he's ready, he's not interested in whether you are ready or not! EDD is just a ball park, keep that in mind (I know you know this). Most docs won't let you go too much past it, but don't worry, he will arrive soon! I'm going to venture to say before the weekend is over!
Have to tried anything to get things moving? nothing worked for me, but I tried them all! Spicy food, walking, S-E-X, deep squats, go 4-wheeling come to mind.
I was at 75% effaced and 1cm for 2 months! I kept thinking "soon" and nothing.
Hang in there! | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | i have been eating food that scalds my mouth all week, we are going to a japanese restaurtant for lunch, cuz a doula-in-training told me wasabi in particular has a good reputation for natural induction. yesterday was mall walking day, and walking, and walking...poor joey, every time i see him, i demand sex, the guy is working really hard during the days and then has to deal with me. i think that is half the reason he has encouraged me to stay at mom's houe this week! doc said yesterday that raspberry leaf tea is safe, so we're gonna hunt some of that up today too. mom has a full day of returning things she bought planned for me, so i' ll be on my feet all day again. she hates returning things to stores, however both my sister and i are the QUEENS of returns, so at least i'll feel useful!

Alert | Sounds like you are doing everything! I remember begging my hubby to give me some lovin' when the baby was near. He said something like "you treat me like a piece of meat to get you in this position, and you treat me like a piece of meat to get out of this position." HAHA
Oh, and the food needs to burn your TUMMY not your mouth! hehe | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | | So sex hasnt worked for anyone else? Huh. thats funny because with both my children I held out for 2 months before the due date then two weeks before it only took once and bam I was in full labor. They say its not the act but the semen, it induces labor. I bet you all wanted to know that.

Good luck when the time finally comes. I think giving birth is the single most amazing experience a woman can have. Enjoy it even though it's gonna hurt. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Alert | Also 2 rounds of 2 oz castor oil and 6oz of orange juice should speed it up. It worked for me. I was in labor within 24 hours after drinking it.

Alert | Its not really THAT unsafe. Really the only reasons they tell you not to use it is because it can cause dehydration if it makes you have diarrhea. If you do go into labor it may be harder on you because you are already so dehydrated. The other reason is because women use it too early. They induce their labor before their body is really ready so then they are stuck having contractions and putting stress on the baby when their body isn’t really ready to deliver.
In your case it shouldn’t be a problem. You are overdue, you are dilated and already having contractions. It may be a good way to speed things along.
In very rare incidents it caused the baby to also have loose bowels. Then you have to worry about them having a bowel movement and ingesting it before you actually give birth. But like I said it is very rare and unlikely to happen if you only take the recommended dosage.
Anyways, that’s what I have been told by my very qualified OBGYN's.

You are so right. It is amazing. You completely look past the pain as soon as you see your precious little baby it doesnt matter any more. Even when you are pushing you are so determined to see your baby you just dont care about the pain so much.
I had my first child two weeks early, thank God. I was in labor for 16 hours and pushed for 4. They tried forceps, the vacuum and an episiotomy and the little guy wouldnt come out. They took away my pain medication when I started pushing so about 30 minutes in I was feeling everything. His heart rate dropped and mine sky rocketed. The doctor was preparing for a C-section then he finally popped out. I had tearing like you wouldnt believe. Tons of stitches. Couldnt walk for about two weeks after because of the bruising it caused my lungs and ribs. (sorry if that scared you, I am only 4'11" 95 lbs, well 135 with baby weight, so it was alittle more difficult for me)
Point is I was ready and happy to do it again 15 months later! Thank God it only took 2 hours of pushing to get her out. And I am thinking about doing it again <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'> This time I would demand a C-section though.
Good Luck! its all worth it.

Alert | Foot massage. There are certain areas on your feet that when they are massaged can put you in labor. I went to a spa in NY when I was ~6 mos preg and they told me they could only do certain areas on my foot and wouldn't rub hard. Good luck!

Alert | well, the countdown is over. yesterday was my EDD and nothing, so now we are into the count back up. as long as nick is not in any distress, i have no intention of getting induced, much to my mother's chagrin, she really wants to be here for the birth of her first grandbaby and HAS to be back in boston for business on wednesday. the way i figure it, he'll come out when he's ready, i just hope he's not wearing 12 month sized clothes and saying his first words when he does!
while i won't do a medical induction, i am all for natural, not harmful, non-invasive methods (AKA old wives tales) so send 'em along if ya got 'em. i've heard both safe and unsafe about castor oil, so i decided to skip that one. i know about black and blue cohosh, but those can cause severe bleeding, so i'm skipping them as well. i am currently drinking red raspberry leaf tea (yummy) and eating wasabi coated dried peas (also yummy). i had a massage from a woman training to be a doula earlier in the week and she showed me a spont on my left ankle, when she pressed it, it immediately caused a fairly strong contraction. later that day i was able to replicate those results, but now nothing. my contractions seem to have pretty much stopped totally again. LVM, pineapple was actually next on my list to try, although i understand you have to eat quite a bit of it for any effect, but since it also falls into the yummy category, i'm cool with that!!!
