Wow after all that is on the news these days and people still leave there kids in the cars. I had a women come into our place of work on time and had left her infant in the car and after another person was yelling at her she stated that the car was running and he will be ok. Umm so that just means that someone could jump in your car and take off with your baby. DuH!!!! Some people should not EVER have children.

Yeah, she did leave her suv running.. But that is no excuse to leave small ones unattended. People like that need parenting classes as well as some common sense......

with all the publicity this stuff gets, you'd think people would be smarter than to leave their kids in the dang car! OMG! Will they never learn?

Have to admit, it is tempting to do, but I guess that's where common sense comes in...
My thought is always this: Yes, it can happen to me and what would I do if it did? I always buckle them (eventhough they hate it) because if something happened to them because of my negligence, I would probably go insane. I'd have to be committed anyway if something happened to them, but if it was my fault, we're talking straight jacket and sedatives for me!

OK, how many of you had your parents do this to you when you were younger? I bet A LOT of you. Do you think your parents are bad because of it?

Maybe this lady had remote start on her Scion. If she did, the car can not be put into gear because the keys are not in the ignition. The doors may also have been locked and the AC was probably on. I'm sure this is much safer than when your parents left the keys in the ignition with you not in seat belts...

Just the good ol' boys,
Never meanin' no harm,
Beats all you've ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.

Straight'nin' the curve,
Flat'nin' the hills.
Someday the moutain might get 'em, but the law never will.

Makin' their way,
The only way they know how,
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow.

Just good ol' boys,
Wouldn't change if they could,
Fightin' the system like a true modern day Robin Hood.

BTW, I'm not condoning her actions, just making a point that although you may not like the fact it was done, there are actually safe ways to leave your kids alone for five or ten minutes. It's no worse than you letting them out to play in your back yard when you can't see them...

So I am going to have to disagree with your logic here. Just because our parents did that to us as kids does not make it right. My mom's generation thought it was fine to smoke and drink when pregnant. It was also perfectly fine to not have kids in seat belts and because of how kids were affected, our generation knows that those behaviors are not acceptable. Who cares what kind of starter she might have on her car. It's not right to leave small kids unattended in a car.

My parents used to leave us in the car when they went grocery shopping! And, my mom used to put me on the bottom of the shopping cart (you know, where the toilet paper/soda goes) when she had to walk away from me to get something. LOL. Times are different! I remember being very scared though.

She probably is a good parent but to leave small kids in car today is not safe. Back in the days people used to do alot of things different. But in the 2000's things have changed. Alot more crime. Maybe they were safe with doors locked & suv started but there are alot of things that could have happened.... And being in a car unattended for 10 mins in a public parking lot is a big difference than being in a back yard unatteded. It takes a min or less for someone to break into cars and a sceond for someone to hit the car... Plus kids get kidnapped daily in this world today...

So, slb, no one can take your kids out of your yard in less than a minute? A snake, scorpion, etc can't find it's way into your yard? How about a dog? I've head of pitbulls fighting to get into yards (under gates, over walls, etc). As I said, I don't condone her actions, but if you're going to jump her for it look at what you do on a daily basis that puts your own kids at risk due to what some may consider being irresponsible.

I'm not saying kids are safe in back yards. No one is safe any where now days. Not in back yards or in your own home, work, parks and so on.... But as a parent we need to protect our children, things happen yes but we can help prevent some things to keep them safe... One is not leaving them alone in cars... If something would of happened to those small ones the parent would have been at fault as well for leaving them alone in her suv. We are talking about very young children, one no older than 2 yrs & the other around maybe 6-8 months. If something happens with snakes, spiders or pitbulls getting in your back yards those are unpreventable accidents.
