Alert | My wife's currently helping a family out and watching their daughter for about 4.5 hours a day(m-f). I was just curious as to what is a fair amount to charge for her services?? They provide all of her snacks and supplies, so that's good. They are willing to pay 50 bucks a week, but I'm begining to have my doubts.
I have a feeling we are being low balled.
Thanks, D72 | | <--- Say his name anyway way you want, but it's pronounced(nov 08) Mr. President.

Alert | | Go with your gut instinct. $50 is way low. It should be around $100 a week for part time.

Alert | | Actually. What I have found for the area varies, it also depends on how old the child is. When I did childcare in my home ( I no longer do so I am assuming its ok to post what I charged when I did) I charged $15 per day part time (under 5 hours) and 25$ fulltime (over 5 hours). I would definately say your getting "low balled" but also considering your not paying for snacks or food. I would say $75 per week would be a fair amount versus the $100 and $50 is just way too low regardless. | | Jody

Alert | | My friend does daycare and that is way to low. Her rate is $25 a day for 5 or more hours. So Monday - Friday for 5 hours a day is $125 a week. They know they are getting a steal!

Alert | I have no idea what is a decent amount to charge, but $50 a week is way low. The way I look at it is this: you get what you pay for. I'm not saying that your wife is providing awful care for a low price, but at about $2 an hour for her time, it's not worth it. And when it comes to the care of my children, I'd pay triple that to make sure they were being cared for properly. My MIL in Tempe runs a daycare from her home. She charges $200 a week, and parents must provide all food/supplies. | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | | Jodypag...I agree with you. I think that your figures are very fair for a home provider.

Alert | | Thanks for all ther input. I'll have to discuss this tonight with my wife. I just feel bad asking for more, because they're friends. | | <--- Say his name anyway way you want, but it's pronounced(nov 08) Mr. President.

Alert | | I have two kids that are in an organized daycare (which is typically more than a home daycare). Their fees are $197 for 6 weeks to 18 months, $187 for 18 months to when they are at least 3 years old and potty trained, and $177 for 3 years old who is potty trained and up to when they start kindergarten. That is for a full day service where they provide breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks, plus they bring in gymboree music, and provides preschool, spanish and computer classes for the kids that are 2 and up. So I would say that $50 a week is way to low but $200 might be a little too high. You may also want to set different rates for the different age groups. Obviously babies are going to be more work than say a 3 year old but you should certainly ask for more.
