Hi - my five month old is ready for some solid foods. The problem is I can't remember how it all goes!! I know I start with rice cereal but then what??? Any advice? How much to start with, how long do I keep him on the rice cereal, then when I start another type of food does he still get rice. Talk to me like I'm a four year old, I won't mind! I can't let my husband know that I don't know everything!! LOL

I would start off with about 1-2 TBS, just to get him used to the texture and swallowing solids. Once he has got the hang of then move him up to about 1/4 cup and then you can start adding the fruits and veggies. Remember only 1 new food a week, just so you can be sure that he doesn't have any allergies to anything and then build from there. Personally I mixed in the cereal with the fruits/veggies just because it made it easier to feed my girls. But you can always do them seperately. Hope that helps. We just got done with baby food a couple months ago.

Mine didn't start until 6 months. started with rice, then to oatmeal, then orange veggies, then green veggies then whatever we were eating run through the blender.

If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

My pediatrician strongly advises waiting until 6 months to start solids. Apparently a good number of babies aren't ready before then.

Also, there's not very much nutritional value in rice cereal. I skipped it all together and started with avocado. My daughter loved it!

I really like this site: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com

They have lots of info about when to start solids, what foods are ok at what age, etc...
