On Monday 7/30, my daughter was chased and harassed by two construction workers. This took place in the subdivision just West of Maricopa Elementary. She was walking home from Maricopa Wells Middle School. The workers were Hispanic and did not speak much english, but they spoke enough for my daughter to get the point of the things that were being said. She is 12 and this in itself was inexcusable. She continued away when the two workers began approaching her. She began to run. She made it about a block away when she saw them in a red Ford truck, following behind her. She ran thru a wash area and back out to the main road. They continued around and followed her all the way to the Elementary. At this point, she had called me and 911. She was so frightened that she ran out of her shoes. The police found one shoe in the wash area and I found one a block away. I do not know what these peoples intentions were, but no matter what they were, it was extremely tramatic for her and for us. The police are now investigating and trying to find the people responsible. I thought I would post this for any other parents or concerned citizens out there. Please watch out for your kids and any others. Thank you.

At any age that would be unacceptable, but 12? She must have been scared out of her mind, poor thing! I am glad that she called the police. My fingers are crossed that they find who is responsible.

Did you contact the police to patrol the area more often?

Even though I feel I live in a safe neighborhood and know all of my neighbors~ I have seen a lot of guys in my neighborhood patroling . . . and I don't mean police. It's extremely important that we teach awareness to our children and avoid letting them walk by themselves. It's lucky that the 12 year old called the police when she did, and knew to do so. She should be proud of herself and her bravery. Hopefully she walks home with her friends now.

Follow up report?

Has the police did a follow up with you yet?

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.
