Alert | | I just wanted to say that I really wanted a natural birth and when the Dr said that he wanted to do a c-section after days of labor I begged him to let me try. I should have gone with the C-Section, I tore really bad lost a lot of blood. My healing time was very long. I would say that there is never a great way to deliver, it is what will work best in your situation.

Alert | | I didn't have either c-section at Chandler, but @ 2 different hospitals, and both only allowed one other person to be in the surgery room with me. So it was my husband. However my mom and sis stood outside the room and heard their cries and got to see the babies as the rolled them out. | | "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Suess

Alert | I had a bad experience at gilbert mercy with getting pain meds - so my advice to you is : DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR PAIN MEDICINE!!! they will always want your pain to be at a level 5 but I'm a whimp so I just told them I was a 5 so I wouldn't hurt so bad. You'll do great, but everyone is right - TAKE IT EASY!!!!! I stayed 5 days with both - I liked the food and attention. Once you get home - it's not about you anymore!

Alert | I had both of my sons C-section. The first after 23 hours of labor and three hours of pushing. It was an emergency C-sec and I was just relieved to have him out safely. His head was too big for me to deliver. Apparently under my fat I am quite petite
Doc did a scheduled C-Section for Baby 2. It was wonderful. I put all my make up on in the morning and looked great in the newborn pictures instead of like I been whooped with the ugly stick like after Baby 1.
Here's what you might expect if delivering planned C-section at CRH.
- Arrive at your scheduled time.
- A nurse will take you back to the recovery room to be prepped. Hospital gown, IV's, etc. Looking back now I would have had a magazine with me. There was a lot of waiting for everything and having something to take my mind off things would have helped with some of the anxiety.
- Only one person can come with you into the OR at CRH
- When the OR is ready for you they will wheel you back to the OR room and give you a spinal. You will be sitting up for the spinal. As soon as it is in they will lay you down very quickly.
- Next there will be a whirl of docs and nurses and in what seems like seconds the baby will be out. Try to pay attention...it will go very quickly.
- Baby will go to the nursery with your fiance or mom and you will be taken to recovery...where you will sleep for a bit. After a little bit they will allow visitors in to see you one by one in recovery.
- When they have your room ready upstairs (all C-sec moms go to a unit upstairs with dedicated nurses) they will wheel you up there and bring in baby.
- I cannot stress this enough...the moment the spinal has worn off get up and try to walk. Try to do it every hour. You'll need help getting out of bed but you can do it. I promise...the more you walk the better you will feel. My nurses told my husband I was recovering faster than anyone on the unit because I was walking so much. It will also help you to "toot" so you can eat. I don't know about anyone else but I was frickin' starving after delivering my kids.
- If you fiance or mom is going to stay in the hospital with you your insurance may cover meals for them, check into it.
- Take a diary to the hospital and write down details you will want to remember. Even if you just take notes...it will be meaningful later.
- If you are breast feeding you will have to be diligent about trying. I am very PRO breast feeding but I did have to supplement with formula for a few days as it took 7 days for my milk to come in. No worries...when it did I had a wonderful breast feeding experience with both and continued to for 16 months with baby 1 and 11 months with baby 2. Don't give up with breast feeding. Baby is learning just like you are. It took my kids and I about 6 weeks to get everything down pat.
- Be prepared for when your milk comes in to feel a bit flu like. I had a temperature, aches, and the chills for about 12 hours when it came in.
- Have a good pump.
- Watch for signs of post partum depression. I had it with baby 1 and it took me 3 weeks to go tell the doc. With baby 2 we were prepared for it. I started taking meds 2 weeks before delivery and never had any problems. I stopped taking the meds may 2-3 months after the birth and I was fine.
I had a wonderful experience delivering my children at CRH and know many others who have to. This will be life changing day...enjoy it. | | If your too open minded your brains will fall out.

Alert | I had another funny thought today...whenever you sneeze or laugh hard hold a pillow on your tummy...that helps hold everything in or something...heehee!
