Has anyone had to receive a c-section? Due to a breech baby? I really need some Pros rather than cons regarding this just to help with my anxiety. This hole time I prepared myself for a natural birth now Im getting syked about the c-section. I just want to know about breastfeeding afterwards, length of stay in the hospital, anesthesia, recovery at home, and well any thing positive would help.

Bye Bye Maricopa!

I have had 2 c-sections. the hospital stay is 3-5 days depending on your DR, hosp policy and how you feel. You can still breast feed right away. you are still awake, you just get a spinal. Everyone is different to recover, but the quicker you get up and walk, the better your recovery. The good thing was I new the date of the second one and got to plan. I didn't have to worry about an episiotomy!(lol) You usually get 2 more weeks (8 weeks for maternity leave for your disability insurance)

I had a scheduled c-section due to a breech baby. I was released on the 3rd day and my daughter wasn't released until the 10th day due to a pneumothorax, slight jaundice and apnea. I was unable to breast feed (very little milk produced). My recovery was fine, however I ignored all instructions about not driving after surgery because my daughter was still in the hospital and I wanted to spend all my time there.

I have never experienced a labor pain so I can't compare the two. I'm a huge baby when it comes to pain, so a scheduled c-section was wonderful in my eyes.

I have had 3 c-sections due to a pregnancy disorder. With the first two, I was pretty high anxiety, but with the last, knowing she would be our last born by me, I just "enjoyed" myself and took everything in slowly trying to remember every detail. I LOVE the first cry of a baby! Enjoy the hospital stay, listen to the doctor, and drink lots of water. It is such a special time! I'll probably think of something else later.

p.s. ask to get dissolving stitches instead of staples. I had staples with the first and got huge blisters that took forever to heal and hurt terrible.

My first child was vaginal and I had my second child via c-section because he was breech and am in the hospital on bed rest waiting for this third little stinker to come via c-section. Having done it both ways, I would say recovery is more difficult with the c-section (but, that could be just because I had 17 month old to chase after also!).

Don't stress about the c-section! For me, breast feeding wasn't any different from my first child. It just took a little while longer to get up and out of bed while in the hospital. Just don't over do it when you get home. You think you're able to move around great, but forget that it's really only due to the pain killers for the first few days! <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>

Hang in there!!

I had a c-section after 3 hours of pushing. She did not want to come out!

The c-section itself was pretty short. The anesthesia worked really well:-) I remember just holding my breath until I heard her cry! She sounded like a kitten! They will take her and clean her up and check her out in the delivery room. While they are tending to you, the baby will go get bathed. I sent my husband with her and he videotaped her first bath. We had both a video camera and regular camera in the delivery room so we have some really cool pictures. Not all hospitals and staff will let you so ask ahead. You will be taken to recovery and baby will join you for the first breast feeding. You are both pretty tired at this point so don't expect much :-)

I stayed for 5 days after her birth because my insurance would let me stay for 3-5 days. I decided to enjoy the hospital for awhile. I tried to get up and walk as soon as possible and I think that was really helpful to the healing process. You will be sore for awhile. I remember the first time I laughed it was painful. My doctor said to put a pillow on your tummy when laughing or sneezing because it helps counter the pressure. It worked for me.

Recovering at home, just take things slow. Don't pick up anything heavier than the baby, get rest, ask for help and take help when it is offered to you.

It will be scary because it is surgery but you will be more worried for your baby than yourself. That is just how Moms are!

Oh I have a lot to add to this topic!! I have had three c-sec. The first was an emergency c-sec. The second was supposed to be a V-BAC (Vaginal After C-Section) But she was breech. The third was planned. I thought after the third that I would skate through the recovery, long story short... it was an awfull recovery for the third. I cant stress to you how improtant it is to take it easy after. I didn't.... I wanted to jump back into my busy life and I actually ended up making my recovery longer. Take advantage of the time to recover your body will need it.

I've had 2 c-sections and both were not that bad. I was awake for both of them. With both c-sections, I was in the hospital for only 3 days. Recovery was not bad at all and breastfeeding was no problem. Each time, the nurses had the babies latch on to me while I was in the recovery room. The only time it was a headache was when I was trying to do to much once I was home from the hospital that first week. Just take it easy and enjoy your little one!

I also have had 2. The first was difficult and the 2nd a breeze! I did stitches the first time and had lots of problems, but had no issues with staples the 2nd time. Nursing was no problem either time. Both times it took my milk a little while (5 days the first time) to come in and did supplement, but that could just be my body. I have 2 things to say about my experiences 1 DO get up as soon as the nurse will let you. 2 be in communication with Dr's and nurses regarding your pain level.

The first time I had some pain mgt problems as well as bad reactions to the medication. The second time I told my dr about the problems and I had a great experience with vicodin (as opposed to perkoset (sp)

oh yeah, kind of a funny side note...but they normally won't let you eat real food until you pass gas! So be prepared for them to keep asking you! =)

I had 2 c-sections. The 1st was an emergency, I was unprepared, already exhausted, in the hospital for 2 days already and scared to death because I had done no research, 0 preparation and had no idea what was going to happen. I had staples, and had no problems, I was scared (really scared) when they took them out and felt nothing. I had an epidural and had a reaction to it, shakes, itching and nausea (which is common). However I had irritation on the incision due to her coming in the summer (June) and I had lots of sweat which irritated the area, so keep it dry.

My 2nd was also a c-section but planned this time. They did a spinal, which was the most wonderful thing. I had no reactions to the spinal so since it is planned I would strongly encourage the spinal. I had the dissolvable stitches, and again just like the staples I had no problem.

I definitely agree that the sooner you are walking the better. I walked @ 4 hours with the first, and 6 with the second (or maybe vice versa, who knows LOL). Don't be scared it will be fine. If it was so terrible no one that had one would ever have another kiddo for fear of the pain.

Also take your pain killer 10 minutes before you leave the hospital and have your hubby get the prescriptions prior to leaving. Bumps in the car without painkillers can be very painful. Make sure the car seat is installed prior as well, because you will not want to be waiting around in the wheelchair. Do not be afraid to demand painkillers around the clock. And like above the gas is a killer.

skoko's right about taking the pain pill 10 minutes before you leave for the hospital. The drive home is a nightmare with all the bumps in the road. I wasn't on pain pills for the drive home, not thinking about it and just wanting to get home, and it was not that fun of a drive. Also, with my first c-section, I had brought this light weight pants outfit to go home in and it was a little uncomfortable for me to wear because of the incision. With my second one I brought a loose fitting dress and it was a world of difference.

Wow this is really helping, I think I have what I want down to a T. I just need to go buy a dress and get the car seat installed.

Does anyone know, does Chandler Regional allow more then one person to be in the operating room with me?

My first daughter was vaginal. I just had twins who were 3 months yesterday. I had a planned c-section as they both were breech. I had them at Desert Sam as they have the neonatal ICU. Thank God I did not need it. I was in the hospital the whole 5 days. I was up moving around asap and in the shower the next day of course with my husbands help. I think staying the 5 days allows you the rest you really need for yourself. My husband was off the week I got home so he could help and allow me still to rest and help with driving the babies to their appts. I would have to agree keep on the pain meds if they start to wear off you will feel the pain. The nurses were great about helping out and keeping you on the meds to keep the pain under control. Do wear baggy clothes. I also had the staples I had to have them removed at my Dr office after I left the hospital. It is true about them not letting you eat food until you pass gas. I say take all the help after you get home and relax and enjoy your new baby!!! Congrats!

I had my second one at Chandler Regional and my husband was in the room with me the whole time. I think that is pretty standard though because he was also with me in the room in CA when I had the first one. The nurses at Chandler are great. I really loved the care that they gave me.

I believe it is just one person in the room with you and when you are in recovery there is also a limit but they can take turns going in and out. They will also help you putting the baby in the car seat before you leave and the nurses also checked and helped with the bases in the car. Just focus on the baby and you will be fine.
