The PSU is not that big. As i said, I'm easily able to fit everything that I need in my backpack. Most people have more than 1 TV, so I don't need to haul a 32-50" tv with me. If and extra screen is needed, I have a small projector that I can bring along (as of yet, I have not had to use it).

OK, OK.

- Controllers: What upgrades? Rechargeable battery packs?

The system comes with one controller. You'll generally need 1-3 more controllers and battery packs if you don't want to feed it batteries every few weeks.

- HDD: Yyou're forgetting that the 360 is a media center extender. A lot of those things can simply be stored on your PC. You can also plug in an external HDD or iPod for your music.

The Media Center market is still a niche market. You're forgetting that HD content (which is hard to come by on Media Center) is available right in the Xbox store. That goes hand-in-hand with your convenience argument.

- Cooling kits: Seriously, only fools go for these. Cooling isn't as much of an issue as it once was, anyway.

You have the latest console right? Many people who have 360s don't and I have to say, even ones from 6 months ago were hot and loud.

- Other accessories: The only extra thing that I had to buy is my Xbox Live subscription... oh, and an HDMI cable.

Accessories

Now yes, I know there are a lot of redundant items in that list and some that are just plain unnecessary, but in scanning that list I found a few that a lot of people would want:

- Headset
- Quick charger for the controller battery packs
- Wireless adapter
- Remote (if they're going to use it for media)
- Live Camera

All I'm saying here is that it is not a comparison between a 400 console and a 1500 computer. You can do nicely with a 800-1000 computer and the accessories and yearly Xbox fees plus (based on history) a repair incident will push you very close to that.

That's called job security! LOL! I don't like it much either, but the fact still remains that that level ignorance exists. Not everyone can be an expert, nor does everyone want to be an expert with technology. I can't wait to get my hands on the latest & greatest tech, but my wife couldn't care less.

I guess continuing my car analogy I can't expect much when I still see Ford Explorers rolling down 347 with practically flat tires.

I guess the best positive with the computer is that you can stuff a cheap 8400GS into your computer, turn down the settings on a game and then enjoy both a console and the computer games. Best of both worlds!

Hey now. Easy does it there Troggie!! I happen to have an original release 360 that is very happy in my entertainment center nestled on top of it's external cooler. It ran very hot prior to the cooler (but never went red). My 2nd 360 has one also (also in an entertainment center), though it may not need it.

So, I may be a fool, but I've never red ringed my 360

But, being an avid PC gamer (online) since 1998 (Tribes)

that was such an awesome game. i still play it once in a while, 10 years or so after it was released. its kind of cool, wikipedia has a list of a few noteable teams on the tribes page...i remember playing with a lot of those guys, and on one or two of the thribes they list.

Jason,
The system comes with one controller. You'll generally need 1-3 more controllers and battery packs if you don't want to feed it batteries every few weeks.

Okay, so you can add in the cost of one additional controller and a recharge kit. The thing is, though, that this is also a positive of consoles in general. How many people can play using one computer?

The Media Center market is still a niche market. You're forgetting that HD content (which is hard to come by on Media Center) is available right in the Xbox store. That goes hand-in-hand with your convenience argument.

Any non-game related things on the 360 are still niche. HD movie rentals are only temporary, so that will just recycle the space used by them. Sure, there are HD clips that you can download, but do you really hang on to them after watching? Even demos are the same way. The only things that I would consider permanently taking up space would be games saves and Live Arcade games.

You have the latest console right? Many people who have 360s don't and I have to say, even ones from 6 months ago were hot and loud.

You just have to be a bit careful with console placement to allow proper air flow. Even if you do get the RRoD, you can still get a replacement since MS extended their warranty.

The only thing really necessary on that list is the quick charger. It comes with a headset, Live Camera is kinda useless, you can use a controller as a remote, but the wireless adapter would be nice.

Sorry, that "fool" comment was a bit harsh. I specifically had in mind the Nyko Intercooler that has been know to cause scorching since it plugs directly into the power port. Anyway, whatever works! You'd better knock on wood, though.

Here's the culprit:

haha. Yeah me too. Once it was released for free I started picking it up here/there. Broadside SHIFTER FTW.

They didn't list my team... weak! I used to play with DMM|US which was HUGE (large amount of servers), and then when they stopped sponsoring games (Diamond Multimedia) I played with the company who took over sponsoring the servers (HomelandFed [HF*]. We were pretty widely known in the Tribes community. There's even a few old school Youtube video's of us playing I found...

Man. Once I get home from work I need to play a few games of Shifter.
