I just built a new PC last weekend. I got a Maxtor 500GB serial ATA 7200RPM for $99.00 at Frys. Way bigger than I need, but for the price why not.

Yea the Seagate would work internally no problem just not in an external enclosure. Oh well my Dad wanted a bigger HD so gave it to him.

I have an acomdata. Its a nightmare. You have to have PE Builder loaded, a seperate program that you have to download from where ever you can find it. Then in order to run it, you have to have your Windows XP cd which of course has a different version from what you are currently using. This creates issues when PE builder asks for the XP cd with the current version that is required for PE. This thing is the pits! There is a special one button push for a backup but of course that software won't execute. Stay away from Acomdata. I also use Kaspersky internet security. I researched that one and the info from diffent mags that rate Mccaffee and Norton said that it is better then them. Hope you have a lot of time to upkeep if you do choose that route. They are out of Moscow and the software just doesn't flow. There is a help page but the wording is difficult to understand as they are Russian and it gets lost in translation.

I prefer the Seagate over others but places like Fry's electronics and the like throw out the deals on many of these not telling you about issues. If you find something you like do some research. You'll must likely hear something bad about everyones HD's but at least that way you make an informed decision.

Customer service must come into play with any electronic purchase, that's the migrain that comes after the headache!

Do some research, you'll be glad you did!

Send me an offline msg and I'll connect you with any manufacturer you want to talk to!

LOL. Don't EVER go to Fry's for customer service. If you know what you want and can take it off the shelf without speaking to anyone, then you should go to Fry's. Please be sure that you check the packaging and make sure there is not a 'return' label on it. (Blue label with hand written notes on it)
If you might need help with a product, go to many of the other stores around Phoenix. You do pay more for that help and you do pay less at Fry's because they don't truley offer that.
If you really need help deciding, contact any of the computer consulting sites listed here on 85239.com. There are a few that may be able to help.
My company is listed there, but we are geared more towards companies than individuals.
