I need some help. I am looking for a GPS unit for myself. Nothing top of the line but nothing at the bottom of the heap either. I have tried to research and compare but I find one that I think will suit my intended needs but it doesn't have a feature that I think I would need........like PC compatible to download map updates............or it has that and too many other features.......like storing pictures and bluetooth......that I don't need.

Suggestions, recommendations would be much appreciated.

I just bought one a couple of months ago for my Jeep, which I take off highway. I bought the Garmin Legend Cx. They run about $225 online. I got mine for $197, which you can do if you shop around online. Here is what I like about it:

Color display, backlit. It uses a micro SD card, so you can buy a big one if you want to store lots of maps and data. It comes with a plain base map. It works with the Garmin maps, so you can add, for example, the topo map for just over a hundred bucks. THis allows you to map your trips on your PC and download routes and waypoints to your GPS. The map interfaces with Google Earth so you can see the actual photos of any given area. You can check the features and reviews online.

I have factory GPS in both of my other vehicles, and it's nothing like those. If you want the big screen so that you can navigate while driving, you will need to spend a little more and get a bigger unit.

I think this is a great unit for outdoor/out of the vehicle use.

Stupid should hurt!

Thanks DD. I was thinking more of one for the car only but when I checked into the one you bought, it might be good to have the hand held.............in case we wander off into the woods.

No one else has any input??

I have a TOM TOM ONE first edition and my husband has the TOM TOM ONE third edition. We like them very much. They actually have most of Maricopa on them too. We had to get rid of a Mio because it did not have any of maricopa. They dont freeze up and they load very quickly. I would definitely recommend them. I think you can actually get the newer one, the third edition for pretty cheap on Amazon. They have one for $149 but it looks like it wont be in stock until Jan. 10th. They have ones for $172 new though available now.

After a lot of research on various units, features and cost. I finally went with the Garmin Nuvi 350. All the features I wanted and more............accessories included. Circuit City, on line for $299.

I was going to get the Nuvi 260 but Circuit City had it for the same price as the 350.

Used it yesterday and it's GREAT!! Love it.

Thanks for the input.

love the garmins. Bought my husband and dad the rino 530 (gps & radio) for hunting... they both love them. Even if you don't want anything fancy, I think any of the garmins are definitely the way to go- good luck!

I have a Garmin and love it. First bought a Magellan but it kept freezing on me. Called Tech support. After being put on hold for 20 minutes, I had a Tech from India and couldn't understand anything comming out of his mouth. I ended returning it and got a Garmin.

I don't really like our TomTom. It feels cheap. Couldn't find our hotel in Sedona. Apparently we "reached our destination" in the middle of nowhere.

I must say that I LOVE my Garmin. I will have to update maps eventually.......especially with all the growth in the valley. I was surprised that Maricopa streets were there. Now I am learning the street names in my community. LOL

I would highly recommend the Garmin units. I gave my daughter one for Christmas and she loves it as well.
