 Alert | Personally, I can not believe how underrated this game really is.
I have been playing this game for 5 hours now and absolutely love the story, the characters, the combat, and above all else the art direction. FYI, I hate anime style games usually (Come from a Japenese Studio I did not think I would find such a game beautiful), but this game takes anime and puts a few twists with a "Tim Burton-esque" style to it.
By far this game is the best game and on the console. It is one of the only games that does feel like I have played it a thousand times. Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, etc. all just feel like steroid versions of similar games like it (Resistance and Heavenly Sword actually fall short of the games they clone).
Folklore, is a refreshing new look on an old genre and mixing the pokemon "gotta catch'em all" mindset with the dark fantasy overtones adds something to be desired.
Yes, there are some issues with load times, linear environments, but overall from a small Japanese studio that that brought us Genji (not a fan of) and a few other low radar games folklore is a HUGE step in the right direction. The comic book style of telling the story is a mix bag because some people like myself enjoy it while others do not find it as engaging, but I do hope that more people start to notice this great game and appreciate the subtleties that went into create such an imaginative world.
I have already demoed this game for eight of friends a few of which never knew this game existed until now.
It is always something to look into if you are in the mood for a game that goes along with the Halloween holiday. If you in the mood for an eerie, dark fantasy story with a lot of character to it I think folklore is the right choice. I completely agree with the 9/10 that IGN gave this game, it is the only score that fits the bill. | | | |
