I don't have this problem with any other web site.
This one takes forever to open, switch from one topic to another, etc.

Same problem here and it seem to occur more, later on in the day. All my other tabs (13) are lighting fast so it is not my ISP. This slowdown began with 85239 when they moved their site host earlier this summer.
By "Forever" I assume you mean 10-20 seconds.

I've experienced delays that aren't seconds but minutes while it sits 'thinking' about opening. And yes, my other tabs are fine so it isn't the ISP but their server. I can't use Netscape to post, it logs right back off. I have to login on Firefox in order to post to the board.

Sometimes it's just a Slow day!

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

85239 seems to have had some problems recently. I've come here only to get a message saying that there was an error, other times the site just doesn't respond.

In general, this server is more reliable and faster than the old one 85239 had.

I think I may have found the source of the slowness you guys are experiencing. I turned off the ad blocking and it indeed slows way down. Firefox always seems to be waiting for banner-server.net, so you may want to try some type of blocking to see if that speeds it up.

Jason is correct.. Its the ads that are slow... I use Firefox with ad-block, and I believe its "www.banner-server.net" that I have blocked..

I started blocking it a few weeks ago, and noticed a huge increase in the forum "speed"...

dont you love when ads that you dont want to see anyway, jack your browsing experience? and consider this...www.banner-server.net isnt just slow for 85239.com. its slow for every site that they have ads on. how many is that? how much network traffic and slowness do those ads cause?

bleh.

Not only is it slow, it logs me out if there is any period of inactivity lasting longer than 30 minutes or so! And the emoticons won't work!

I keep trying, though. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/sad.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Sad' align='absmiddle'>

We had a couple of banners that exceeded our size requirements and were slowing down the site. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are correcting the issue.

Thank you.

They work if you post the message from the Quick Reply box, see?

Just compose your messages like normal, but instead of submitting them, highlight the whole thing, copy, go back one page, paste into the Quick Reply and then submit.

Cmon now. The only reason it is slow is due to poor webhosting. There are sites far larger than this that run without problems.

I use ad block too and it still runs slow at times. It is not the ads.

Yes, there are times that it runs slow, but if you let the ads through, it runs slow all the time. Therefore, the slow down described here is due to the ads, and the one you are describing is a separate issue.

What ads? Use Adblock Filterset.G Updater with FireFox.

I used Filterset.G, but it is just too slow. I've found the EasyList subscription does a fine job without slowing down Firefox.

I very rarely even come to this site anymore because it is so slow.
I only came on today to see if there had been any replies that might explain / or suggestions to improve the speed.
There is no fun in waiting for one minute or more to go from one topic to another.

I switched to EasyList subscription based on Jason's recommendation. I loaded the site in IE and was amazed at the amount of garbage 85239 puts on the page. No wonder it's slow.

AzGram01, my suggestion is to use firefox with the EasyList subscription as Jason stated. You will not be disappointed.

Do you use the Flashblock plug-in too? It catches flash ads (the most annoying ads of all) that make it past Adblock.

It wasn't slow this morning, it wouldn't work at all for a couple of hours this morning. I kept getting an error message instead. Anyone else experience this?
