Alert | Do you have any experience? a) starting from scratch b) want to build on current knowledge c) just need some sort of cert.
HTML is easy to self teach. I would suggest going through some of the free tutorials at W3Schools before getting started with any classes. It's a good place to gain familiarity with common tags and syntax.

Alert | | As was already suggested, read through W3Schools. Also, pick up some books on web design and programming. If you're interested in creating complex sites, I'd also recommend learning a server side programming language and database system. My personal preference is PHP and MySQL. Learn coding from scratch, and then you can utilize programs like Dreamweaver to streamline your work flow.

Alert | There are two different sides of Web Design you can venture into, either the coding/programming side or the art/design side. You really do need pick a preference and then learn a little bit about how the other side (whether programming or design) works with your specialized side.
I have quite a few friends that do web design, some work primarily in java/xhtml while others just only do flash, or artists that do design work in Photoshop.
If you round yourself out too much many of the marketing companies that do web design work would be more reluctant to higher such a person.
Focus your craft, but understand how they react with all the other aspects of web design/marketing.

Alert | | MCC has great classes on web design (I have taken a few of them). There are also a ton of website design books out there (Barnes and Noble is good) to teach yourself. | | "My favorite health club is the International House of Pancakes" -- Lewis Black
