Alert | My Hitachi HD tv died on me and I am in the market for a new one. I want 1080p but I also would like it under 2k and something near 65 in.
So far this is the one I'm leaning towards... <img src=http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US/images/products/8320/8320168_ra.jpg>

I saw it on sale at fry's for $1800...

Alert | We have that TV and so do our in laws. Its nice and looks great. My favorite part is that I can put my SD card from my digital camera in it and play a slide show!
I don’t know all the geeky techy stuff that is my husbands department but I can tell you that no matter what I would go to Spencer’s in Mesa to see if they can beat the sale price for best buy or ultimate electronics they did for us.
If you call the Mesa store and ask for Larry he will do you right. We bought ALL our appliances and electronics form me. Nice dude.

Alert | | Have you considered a projector? Also check Costco. I believe they have a Mitsubishi 65" that is less than that. There you get a 90 day return window and 2 year warranty. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Dear "jhall" the deal of the day is a 61" Samsung DLP 1080p at Sam's Club for $1899 with a stand, by far and away the best "Bang for the Buck"

Alert | | I think Costco bests that. IIRC it was $1600 for the 65" Mitsubishi DLP. However, I might be mixing up prices. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Was at COSTO Home yesterday and Jason had the price off a tad. It's a Mitsu 1080P 65" for $1799.00. Smoking deal for a great set. I've got the 73" and love it.

Alert | I thought about a projector also, I was looking at this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8362764&st=projector&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1177718094994
It supports 1080P and has received great reviews.... but I just don't know hard dark my living room will be until I move in. | | All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. --Edmund Burke

Alert | I wouldn't go with that one. It's native resolution is 1024x768, which is not even widescreen. Everything will have to be converted. Costco.com has one for, it was either 1600 or 1700 by Panasonic that is much better.
Definitely do some research before buying one. Know that DLPs (unless you are looking at the 2-2.5k ones) won't allow lens shift, so if the projector isn't exactly where it needs to be, there will be some digital keystone correction you'll need to do. You'll also want to take measurements and compare that to the projector's throw distance. LCDs aren't as good at blacks and some have a noticeable screendoor effect, but have simple lens shifting that makes it easy to get a square image if you can't have the projector setup straight on. An easy way to decide if you like a projector is to try the one Costco has right now. It's a Sony 720P LCD projector with 80" Sony DynaClear (ambient light rejecting) screen. With Costco you only get a 90-day return policy, but you get a 2 year warranty that includes the bulb. Sam's has no such provision, but offers extended warranties and no limit to the return period.
Depending on your configuration, you could put thick heavy drapes (also good for heat rejection) over your windows and make the room pretty close to dark. Once you've seen a projector on a 90-100+" screen there is no going back. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | O I know I have had one before. But it wasn't a 1080p. I definitely want a 1080p project so I can take full advantage of my xbox360 and hd dvd player. I just don't want to spend 3k..... Maybe ill go with the 73in Mitsubishi... | | All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. --Edmund Burke

Alert | | I purchased the 60 inch Sony SXRD for under 2400 and LOVE IT. Its 180 degree viewable with a better picture than most DLP televisions. Its half life is better than both the plasmas and LCDs and its less expensive. One model has 2 HDMI connections while the other has 3. Defenitely do your research but good luck in your search.

Alert | I was just reading some reviews and that sxrd outperforms the Mitsubishi in a side by side..... http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Customer-reviews-for-Sony-60-SXRD-Projection-HDTV-KDS-60A2000/sem/rpsm/oid/152039/rpem/ccd/productDetailReview.do#tabs
I'm leaning towards the sony now. plus the 60 in is near $1800.... | | All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. --Edmund Burke

jhall, unless you have the new XBox 360 Elite, the only way you can output 1080P is through the VGA port. The new XBox 360 Elite has HDMI and is fully 1080P capable.

Got what for $15.? A VGA Cable? Better make sure the TV supports it. My 73" Mitsubishi won't do VGA.
