OK, I have this old Compaq DeskPRO EN sitting around. I hooked it up to my HD Samsung TV. The TV has the VGA connection with a "PC INPUT" on the menu.

My problem is, I can NOT get this system to see better than 24bit 800x600. I have checked different drivers and no luck.

The monitor is showing a "plug N Play" - Do I need to find a monitor driver for my TV in order to get like 1024X or better??

Any insight would be great!

Thanks !

What is the model of your TV? Some TVs only support really low resolutions through PC inputs. You may need to go through HDMI (through a DVI->HDMI adapter) or through component cables (through a VGA to component cable).

Mike, I'm thinking it is probably the graphics card itself does not have the horsepower to gice you the 1080P you are probably looking for. Have you tried hooking up a newer Puter to the TV?

While it could be the graphics card, this is a fairly frequent problem with televisions. They only send really low resolutions as being supported in the EDID data to the computer. The solution is to use another video input method that supports a higher resolution, such as component or HDMI and then setting the graphics card to output the higher resolution. That's why I asked for the TV model. A quick search on AVS Forum will probably clear this up really quickly.

I have a Samsung HDTV with the same issue. Stuck at 800x600. From my research it looks to be the graphics card which cannot support the HD resolutions. Though it hasn't been that big of a deal for me so I haven't dug too deep into it. If you do find a solution that works please post it up here for all to see.
